Round up those Cattle Knives!!

Another Camillus Built Beauty, and again stamped HIGH CARBON STEEL ( over ) U.S.A on the Tang of the Main.
Etched on the Main is STA SHARP, under this is the block lettering acid etching FOUR BLADE- then in stylised and extremely faint Carbon Steel
Clip point Main this time, but with the same other blade arrangement ( apart from the cool little Clip Point ) as the previous Camillus - this Knife has the 4 blades and not the 5, this one too hails Circa 1927 -1940.

The Spiral Punch this time has the very cools Tang stamp stating just that in stylised Writing Spiral Punch.

The Bone almost borders on a jigged Apoloosa- it's nice, it's Mellow and I really like it a lot, the small oval shield is pinned.
Turn the Knife over, this Double Springed Knife has a lovely fancy Coined Liner running through the middle.

Yet another classy Knife built by one of THE greats...

... (Is a "humpback stockman" a cattle knife??)...
- GT

...
I don't know about the humpback, GT!
If YOU don't know, Charlie, then I feel much better about the fact that I don't know! ;)

r8shell, That's a reasonable approximation. This is off the top of my head so if there are mistakes or omissions, please correct them...

Serpentine with clip = Stockman
Serpentine with spear = Cattle Knife ancestor(*1) to stockman (bulky="premier" & slender="transitional")
Equal end or "fancy"(*2) with clip or spear =Cattle Knife

(*1) I think a good question is... What about long after 1890? Can you still have ancestors or transitional patterns 50 years later??
(*2) fancy=jumbo, balloon, surveyor, eureka
Using Jake's summary, it seems like the Case humpback stockman is definitely NOT a stockman, but it may be a cattle knife if the humpback frame is "fancy".

...
Here is a Case humpback stockman, which I guess is actually a fancy cattle knife.

Looks like Jeff and Will agree with me (or I agree with them ) that the humpback stockman is a cattle knife after all.:cool::cool: Here's my contribution - a twin of Will's, I think:

For a prod knife, the CASE Hump has a lot going for it: totally sunk joints, nice cut-out to access the Spey and smooth yet crisp W&T.
Thanks, Will
Speaking of agreeing with Will, I completely concur with his exalted opinion of this model.:thumbsup:

My SAK Electrician is equal end with a spear main,a sheepfoot and a punch + a bottle cap opener/screwdriver. Would it be considered a cattle knife if it didn't have the extra blade?:)--KV
I tend to agree with you about the Vic Electrician model, KV!;)
(I thought I actually posted a similar conjecture once, but I can't seem to find it if I did.:()

This is a very informative and enjoyable thread, with an abundance of irresistible, beautiful knives!:thumbsup::cool::cool::thumbsup::thumbsup: Thanks, everyone, for your contributions!

My friend- if only the Gods would smile upon us - I can just see it now - this big box will come and I would be ripping it open with such anticipation- to find it having been intercepted by you and contains bricks and the odd bit of grease paper:eek: :D

LOL!!!! It does my heart good to see!! You just can't buy friends like this!! :) Unless of course a BIG box of knives does show up........:p:rolleyes:;)

Does this humble little guy count?

IMG_2210.JPG

3 line Camillus, 3 5/16", jigged delrin. MoorMan's was a mid-western (IL, IN, IA, WI) livestock feed company that my grandfather was a salesman for - these knives were given as promotional items (like the more common Purina ones). This one wasn't one of his (I have other knives that were), I got it off eBay.
