Round up those Cattle Knives!!

Excellent thread Charlie. This is one pattern I have really wanted, but never came across a knife that clicked all the boxes for me to purchase.

Some real beauties in this thread folks!

Nice follow-up, Tx!!
I love that pattern, and it looks great with Slant Bolsters!!
All three of those are wonderful!! The Stag is exceptional.:)

Your killing me Charlie........your killing me!!!!
Sorry Lostball!! Be patient!!
Just remember, these knives are presented by an advanced geezer!!
When you are old and decrepit, maybe your collection will make you feel better also!
My Doctor always said, before he passed away, "Buy two knives and call me in the morning"!
:rolleyes::D

Whew! Charlie- amazing - there’s another take on the saying “ six of the best”! Those Red Bones are simply outstanding- as are the Green/ Rogers Bone examples - very

Edit: Buy two knives and call me in the morning lol - that’s good Charlie.

Not all Cattle knives were/are made in America! Here are a couple of Sheffield-made Cattles, showing some of the features that make UK-made knives so desirable.
The first is a Joseph Rodgers, no.6 Norfolk st, England.
All blades are marked with the Star and Cross. The handles are Buffalo Horn.
Like most of the JRs I've come across, it retains its fit and snap despite age and use.

Glad you are enjoying them, Duncan! (Buying two knives cures a lot of ills!!:))

Here's my other Sheffield Cattle. I've owned the JR for several years, but this one has only been in my care for a few months. REPEAT brand by Needham Bros, Sheffield. No England stamp on it.
Great punch, and snap all around. Blades marked Hand Forged. I think the Spey blades are purposely shaped with that big, swoopy belly on this and the previous JR.
At first I thought it was rehandled, but now I am convinced it has original Stag handles. They are gnarly looking, but highly "pocket polished"! The blade has a nice deep etch that says FARM KNIFE.
Both of these knives are a little longer than standard American made knives, at 3 11/16".
Also the shields and rivets match, and the bolsters are very close!!! Hmmmmmm!!??!!

Talk about stag ...wow !! And what a punch :eek::thumbsup:

Thanks Tx and Gev!! That Stag is fitted just right, IMO. And the Punch is a work of sculpture. They would both be expensive today!!
Interestingly I was looking up Sambar Stag today, and it seems that that animal was released into Australia a very long time ago, and has become a pest. Since there is a world shortage of antlers, seems like there is an opportunity here!!

So this is the first time I have had these Sheffield Cattle knives in the same place.
I am pretty sure they came from the same cutlery!!

There is some variation in the bolster length, but that happens at GEC also, when they machine through to get them parallel .

Jake, Charlie, Jeff, Mark, just everybody: YOUR KNIVES ARE BEAUTIFUL!!!. So, there;):D when I posted way back it was this knife I was curious about. I’m still not sure: . Any thoughts? It’s a daily carry:D, so it won’t bother me either way.
Thanks, Neal
