Rumor of happenings between Ontario and RAT Cutlery

Here's one of my old poems for you guys ...

I love the struggling rat.
Now what do you think of that?

He never tries to reach the skies,
He always honors family ties,
He never sighs or alibis,
He's better than a lot of guys
Who sneer, and then avert their eyes

As servants put out poisoned bait,
So much the working rat they hate.

-- Esav Benyamin

Ontario's management, as someone wisely said in this thread, needs to spend their money on learning about knives, about quality control, and all those aspects that make a good company. The only reason - IMHO - that they are still in business is precisely because of Jeff and Mike's designs, and now they bite the hand that fed them.

It's a testament to RAT's designs and RAT's dedication, strangely enough: if the RAT knives sold by Ontario weren't so critical to their business, they wouldn't bother doing this.

I just changed the little line under my screen name to "RAT Cutlery's Friend."

Show your support by doing same!

Such a shame!!! I was going to order the entire line of RAT's except for the RAT 3 I own. I will wait on that until this pans out.
I spend a ton of money monthly on knives monthly and carry a knife while I am on Acitve duty with the Army. I had a RAT 3 on some of my gear and that is coming off tonight. I will replace it with my RC3. It would have been there anyway but it was so damn pretty I hated to really use it. Not now!!
I also am in a fight with Ontario over a rat horn set I bought. I sent it back for repair and they sent it back in the exact same shape. Did not do anything to repair the knives. I am dealing with someone from Ontario now I hope they can make it right but it is not looking good for them.
I will keep my fingers crossed and believe you me.... I am a RC buyer for life.... these guys are by far the best I have ever had dealings with. Good luck and if there is anything I can do... I will! :)

I do not care for this action taken by Ontario and will not make an Ontario purchase.

Well, I will be nice about it, but I will not support Ontario myself if this comes about. Ontario had better think looong and hard about the course that they want to take here.

There seems to have been issues at Ontario with how they have dealt with RAT before now too, eg the folder. Interesting road they are traveling. As can be seen above, this will doom them if it comes about IMO. Too many knife nuts and dealers on here to ignore what would come about.

Thats what gets me as well. Boy will the "shareholders" that Ontario is "looking out for" be pissed when Ontario sales plummet as a result of this ignorant action! As if the 'knife community' would just stand by and watch Ontario BONE Jeff and Mike... Thats ludicrous!

Yeah, they won't see my money, and if they sue I will make sure that anyone I talk knives with will hear about it. Hopefully it was just wishful thinking on their part and they won't go any further than asking. I guess we shall see. Good to hear that you guys have some legal backing now in case you need it. Sad, sad, sad :(

email sent to Ontario. good luck.

I've been looking at at an RC-3 or RC-4 for my oldest son and now seems like a good time to pull the trigger.

Just sent them this one:

I am truly disappointed to hear that Ontario is behaving in such a low manner towards RAT Cutlery and Jeff Randall and Mike Perrin.

If Ontario proceeds with it's pathetic lawsuit, I for one will be totally boycotting any and all Ontario products as well as any brands owned by Ontario INCLUDING Queen and Old Hickory!

How about some supporter shirts for the upcoming Blade Shows:thumbup:I will be at both blade east and west and i would were one:thumbup:

I just want to chime in with my support for you guys. This is really disappointing on many levels:(. I'd love to see both companies prosper, and even with the improvements of Rat Cutlery I still really like the RATs too. I have a 3, 5 & 7 and would probably have bought more, along with getting Rat Cutlery products. Now, in good conscience I won't be able to do that, and that's a shame. I guess on the bright side that's more money available for the RC lineup:D

If by some remote chance you're forced to rename I say go for JAM (=Jeff and Mike) Cutlery

I mentioned in my email that I'd be voicing my opinion at Blade. Does Ontario normally have a table?

I support you guys, I email FOK, to explain that stealing designs by stepping on other companies will lead to failure and will be the next knife company in the NY area to close it doors.

I as have been trying to decide which to get a tak or RC-4 guess my decision has been made for me.

Jeff & Mike you have my support and if for any reason you need a photographer or graphic designer for anything related to this ridiculous lawsuit just let me know.

Lets face it if you look at the rest of the Ontario line there is a lot of competition out there with almost the very same styles. Now to have multiple forums turn against you when most knives are bought or not because of comments from these forums is a clear misunderstanding or disregard of the community. . Bad business move to say the least.
