Rumor of happenings between Ontario and RAT Cutlery

This really does suck, I hope someone from the company is reading all this and advises they pulls their heads in. This behaviour could be quite detrimental to their sales figures.

I just changed the little line under my screen name to "RAT Cutlery's Friend."

Show your support by doing same!

Brian how do you do it?

I think you may have to be a paying member? Go to "user CP" at the top left of your screen, then to "edit profile," then you'll see a "custom user title" section. You should uncheck the box, then write what you want in the little space there. Then scroll down and save the changes.

Custom titles may have to be above Gold membership:
Knifemaker or Platinum, and moderator.

Sorry to hear the bad news guy's , I just sent an E-mail to Ontario to give them a piece of my mind:mad: They just lost another customer.

As some of you in the Wilderness & Survival forum already know... I am about to get a BRKT (still don't know which one). Also, to get a better deal on the shipping... I was thinking about getting a RAT 3 but after reading all this... I may just keep my money or get a RC 3 instead (even being about $30 more expensive... it is supposed to be a better knife overall AND a better sheath...).

Guys, I had to post up again to say this. Don't quit buying Ontario products. They are a good American company and they do have some very good products, including the Ontario RAT line that has our name on it. The employees there are good people. The last thing I want to see happen is another American made manufacturer go down the tubes...honestly. Also remember that Nick only said he would have the lawyers send the papers, so we haven't been officially served or sued yet. All I'm saying is the last thing Mike or I want is any type of a boycott on Ontario products especially when they're one of the best bangs for the buck out there.

Jeff

While I'm pleased to see your pesonal integrity shining through during this ordeal, every single cent that is spent on Ontario products from now until this ridiculous mess gets sorted out is a potential cent in their war chest against you.
I will not fund their campaign to destroy a company that has, in my personal opinion, kept them afloat for the the last few years. Very little in their inventory has any real interest to me, other than the RAT line, and they've managed to dick that up a time or two in the past because they can't seem to keep their quality control under control.
The sooner we stomp them back in line, the sooner we can all get back to business as usual with them, if any of us choose to do business with them.
They have far exceeded their bounds and can no longer be construed as an ethical company to do business with. I strongly encourage them to prove me wrong.
At this point, they are going to have to prove to me and the rest of the buying public that cares about what they buy and who they buy it from, that they are a company worth doing business with. Until then, they can kiss any monies they may have gotten from me or my family and friends goodbye.

A small example of how Jeff & Mike operate-

I ordered a hat off of their website. Jeff sent an
email saying that it was out of stock, & I could
get a full refund or wait for the new & improved
hat. He also said that He would throw in a t-shirt
for free. Now thats just damn good business!

Jeff, great hat dude..

P.S. Just ordered RC4 & email sent to Ontario.

Hang in there guys

Jeff in St. Petersburg

E-mailed Ontario, just ask that honor and integrity be applied with the RAT cutlery issue.

I only own a Model 1 folder from Ontario (1st production run) but I won't own any more. It is a shame as well as I have a personal boycott on Case knives and have a couple of Queen knives. I like them even though they ship them without bevels properly sharpened. Well I guess that there are 2 slipjoint knife companies on my NO list now.

I will support the little guy, and always do. I refuse Budwieser as a result of their actions and will treat Ontario the same way, no matter what the outcome is.
As soon as I can afford one I will support Jeff and Mike!!!

Perfect example of corporate greed. They see a gold mine. Why would they give up such cash cow.

Jeff/Mike sorry to say but I think your gonna see a long $$ hard $$ fight comin.

F.U.O and all you stand for as a corporation. Loosers.

Jeff,

This is surprising. For as long as you have been involved with blades I have always thought of RAT Cutlery as yours. I figured that Ontario was just a manufacturer you licensed to produce your designs. I have long felt that lawsuits of this sort are ignorant and the people bringing them are worse. I'll bring this to the attention of the Hoodlums Forum with a suggestion that they reconsider any purchase of Ontario cutlery in the future as that purchase is helping to fund an attack on you.

Best wishes my friend.

This needs to spread fast and hard. It's been stated that money and power usually win these things. Well, thanks to the internet, hitting them in the money is easier than ever.

Spread this info everywhere you can, organize a boycott, and make it hurt their bottom line and their reputation.

Nick has an obligation to his shareholders and to his employees. Well guess what pal, your shareholders aren't going to like a drop in sales over your bullish actions.

Mr Randall, I would like to request that you post an open letter about this issue someplace that is publicly accessible. Bladeforums tends to require a login to read threads, which will limit the exposure of this. If you will put a letter up on your website regarding this (assuming you can handle a lot of traffic, if you aren't sure about the traffic, please contact me, I'll be glad to host your letter).

I will then post this on Digg, and encourage as many people as I can contact to push it up through the rankings so it makes it to the top of their news items.

If we as a community organize and start taking these people on in an asymetric fashion, I think they'll back off.

Anyway, I'll do whatever I can to help.

dravine,

I admire your support, but because scumbag lawyers are always behind these things, it probably would not be in RAT's best interest to say anything more in public. Lawyers seem to always manage to twist things to their own 33% advantage.

Threads in General can be viewed by anyone w/o logging in. If the moderators thought it appropriate (there may be some objection to threads about this all over the place?) perhaps one could be started or moved there.

Great post, and good idea Ron.. Im going to make our members on CustomKnivesandGuns.com aware of this as well.

This makes me sick and very pissed off. I am sickened at the thought that a knife company like Ontario would stoop so low and do something like this to Jeff and Mike.

The only reason I still have any of Ontario's product, Spec Plus Knives, at this moment is because they belonged to my dad before he died. That is the only reason I will keep them. I will no longer buy any Ontario knives at all any more.

What they are doing is out of sure cowardice, greed and jealousy. They need to focus on their QC and now public relations. I hope they go under or at least suffer extreme finacial loss due to this action.

I stand behind Jeff and Mike right now even though I unfortunately don't have any of their knives YET, but I will. Good luck guys.

Very good point, I'm not suggesting Mr Randall publish anything that he doesn't feel comfortable with. The thing is, I can't get the word out, if I don't have the word to start with.

I'd really like to see an example made of this situation. One good hard slap on the pee pee might make other companies think twice about similar tactics in the future.

Boycotts work, but only if they are large enough.

What a sad state of affairs. Bad form Ontario. Now I'll have to slam you every time someone mentions modding an Old Hickory. Too bad.

+1 for RAT Cutlery.
I just emailed Ontario and told them I would do everything I could to convince every knife newbie on BF's and KF's to not buy ONtario. If several dozen of us threaten this they will get a message that the biggest influnce on knife purchasing on the net will have bad things to say about Ontario.
Best of luck Jeff and Mike.
Let the Ontario "slam fest" (thanks Fiddleback) begin!!
Bill
