Russ Andrews, part 2

Thanks for your input Steven. Russ and I discussed it and decided that your observation matches ours, so the ricasso is being shortened.

Yup, You made a good piont STeven. The ricasso was too long.

It's been shortened, and after a few other adjustments are
completed, I'll send another photo or two...hopefully later
tonight.

Thanks

It's always a crapshoot to comment in a situation like this....I tried to be straightforward and diplomatic at the same time.

If I kept my mouth shut, and either one of you were not pleased with the final outcome for some reason, I would have felt terrible.

Best Regards,

STeven Garsson

Just my opinion, but I think Keith(and, most everybody else) would've been happy with the ricasso being long. It might be even nicer with the shorter ricasso, but I'll just bet it would've been quite nice before. :)

Danbo,

You know Russ well, and I do not, but in my correspondance with him, and observing his work, it always seemed to me that he tries to do his "best".

Sometimes when you are too close to something, like making a knife, you don't see other possibilities. All I did was present another possibility, before it would have been too late to change.

I have owned too many knives that would have been better with a small change like this implemented. I don't own many of those any more.

I hope that the new owners are happy with them, but I was not.;)

Best Regards,

STeven Garsson

I noticed it at a glance, however didn't see it as a defect. Just a matter of preference thing, with my preference leaning towards a little shorter.

You should both be proud of the overall accomplishment.

Here are a couple of images showing the change. For the photo showing the whole knife there is a wing nut instead of the finial. There will also be a cap added to the rear ferrule that will add 3/8" to 1/2" to the length of the handle.

Good to see someone else liking the HUGE Bowies I'm egtting one made for me at the mo nice big 14 inch blade and it is sort of based on the Musso only much better. That is a beauty of a Bowie, Great work, what kind of sheath you got for it. It is just a WOW knife :D.

I've been guilty of the loooooong ricasso. Looks good on some blades but I've been shortening them up a bit lately.

That looks great, guys!

That's an awesome knife, the handle and fittings look really good. Good eye, Steven.

Here are the final images from Russ, except for when the sheath is completed. There will still be some to come from Coop.

Absolutely Beautiful.

Amazing what a small detail such as the escutcheon can add to the overall.
A very nice touch. :thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:
