S&W/Taylor Cutlery Darrel Ralph Collaborations

Can't agree more . . . I went to the S&W booth today to see what a piece of junk the HRT mg folder would be . . . I was wrong! It is a really knice knife! I predict it will wind up being deal-o-the-year! (30 something dollars!

I handled the proto at the shot show of the flipper. It was ok. Then at the blade we saw the production. All the knives were made really well.
Dex and I did a lock opening test on the flipper at the camillus camp after the show.

The lock on the flipper held up to over 500
openings and did not move over on the blade . At that point it did not fail the lock (back of the blade whack test) All in all a great knife. We tested the straight blade also .
Held a good edge and passed the rope cutting tests with flying colors.
The fit and finish on both knives were great.

Good value for the bucks!

I also want to clear up Some feedback about Mike Lamprey. The general design of the flipper knife is Mikes design. There were several small things that needed attention on the custom to make this knife happen for production. I feel we both added the same amount to the design although the knife kept mikes general look on the knife. Sometimes its what you cant see that makes a great knife work well also.

The S&W knife is built very well . There are little secrets that were worked out on the knife to make it a very strong knife and more user worthy in the long term.

The knife is a designed very well underneath the skin.

Mike is a gret person to know as a human being. I want to thank Brian Turner once again for getting us together.

I look forward to more collaborations with Mike and Brian that are in the works as we speak.

Im not taking side here with S&W on there knifemaking design practices. I do want to say that all has went well and what was promised on the collaboration with S&W has been true to form at this point.

Taylor has had a changing of the guard so to speak with knife designs that I have been involved with. They have done everything they said they would do.

I think they were talking about $39 for either knife.

Believe me, these are HARD to find. they're still not even listed on Taylor's site. I searched for quite awhile and finally found them at: www.knifeoutlet.com. They have them listed "on sale" for $44.95.

Thanks for the update Gene. It would be interesting to pay attention to the gun/knife show circuit. A few gun show knife dealers I know say that some of their best sellers are the SWAT folders. With the pricing of the H.R.T. series, hopefully we'll start to see more of them at gun shows.

I was at a gun show last weekend and I know I saw the folder there. I don't know how much it was going for but it was a nice knife.

I have to agree with Darrel, no matter what you say about the knife, Mike Lamprey is a great guy and a great maker. Have dealt with Mike in the past!

Anyone have a pic of the new S&W/Ralph framelock? I saw a pic in blade but you can't tell much from the angle it was shot at. How about some specs?

I'll see what I can do. Quite curious myself.

Stay tuned....

I don't have the magazine in front of me but it is in the section about framelocks. Looks kind of like a larger EDC. Suggested retail is supposed to be about $56.

Yup, got the issue here myself. It does look EDC-ish. I've got an email in to the Fat Bastid about this...hopefully he'll come through for me. Stay tuned

Sigh....yup :) He's holding out on ME  :D LOL

Still no word from him yet...he's probably out partying tonight :p

Just got word from Taylor that they will be using 40C for this knife. I was also advised that they are due to arrive at Taylor Cutlery today. Looks like these may be hitting the streets soon. I am not sure where they are produced. If the quality is good I'll be getting one for sure.

Thanks for the update, Dennis. At least they are using sensible steel for this piece. The knives are probably made in Taiwan, along with the HRT series. Knowing Darrel, he won't lend his name or design out to a company who will do a crappy job interpreting it.
