S&W/Taylor Cutlery Darrel Ralph Collaborations

Sheez, Jason! Forget stonewash....just disassemble the damn thing and send it all to Bodycote!! All DLC baby!! :D

Would DLC work well for the handle? As in does it grip well or does it affect the feel of the metal significantly?

Yes, DLC would work for the handle. It may make it just a tad bit slicker to the touch but the difference will not be that noticeable.

Well, I finally got the S&W FL2! It was an unexpected gift from my good buddy Jason Burns, and it arrived today. Wow. For the money, this is a damn good knife! Action is smooth. No blade play; blade is centered between the slabs, ball detent is strong, lock up is spot-on, excellent fit and finish, and a great edge on the blade. It's a solid folder, but carries well due to the relative thinnness of the handle. I will be taking this knife to Bodycote for them to apply tungsten DLC coating, and this will be my second beater knife (A Strider AR is my primary rough use piece). Overall, I am very impressed with the quality of this. Here is a pic of it along with my CUDA Talonite EDC.

Wow! That is great news Dexter. I wish I could talk my friends into giving me knives. Better treat Jason right.

I'm glad you like it. An endorsement from a well respected knife aficionado such as yourself means a lot. I was beginning to think I was on an island when I said these were great knives for the $$$. I can't help but think that maybe Taylor cutlery has a stigma attached to their knives. Of course I felt the same way about them. I will now be looking at their knives on a case by case basis.

I decided I would give it a try when I saw that DDR was involved. I don't believe he would let his name get put on junk.

Michael Schwoebel got the drop point version and I believe he likes it as well.

If more people would give this knife a look they may be pleasantly surprised.

Let us know how the DLC turns out on it. I amy have mine done as well. Mine has seen a lot of carry time and has actually entered rotation as a hard use knife.

Yeah, I better...especially after what I did to him for April Fools 2001!!

Thank you Dennis. I just ignored the fact that S&W has done things in their past that a lot of folks don't approve of. A good knife is a good knife. No matter who makes it or where it is made. This is a great knife! Easily competes with your CRKTs, Timberlines, etc. Stylish and solid. And yes, having known Darrel for a long time now, I know good and well the man won't let any factory reproduce his designs unless he knows for damn sure they will do a good job and do it justice. Bad thing is, this puppy has me craving more than ever a larger CUDA EDC!! ;)
