Sabenza. Is it worth it?

Thanks for the great info. I think im going to give it a shot and try it out. Now question is small or large??

The way I see it, Sebenza is definitely worth it.

With Sebenza you get more than just utilitarian value. You get a piece of knifemaking history. Sure you can find $20, $50, $100 knife that does the job just as good, or in some cases even better, but there is more to it.

Think about it this way. Imagine if Benchmade (Bradley) stopped production of Alias or Spyderco stopped making Sage II, and at the same time Chris Reeve stopped making his folding knife. Sure some people will miss Alias and Sage II, they will be looking for them and paying high dollar, but it won't be something as special as Sebenza. I'm pretty sure that if CRK stopped making his folder, it has a potential to double in price on secondary market. That already hefty price tag can be $600 instead of $330, and still there will be people trying to get that piece of history. Add to it the highest build quality recognized by most other makers and users, and you get a very special knife.

Sebenza is not for everyone, it is not the best knife ever, but it is worth it's price.

Good question, but really it's entirely up to you & your needs. If you're the kind of person that prefers smaller folders, then definitely get the small one, but if you prefer larger folders & 3.5"+ blade length, then get the lg.

As for reg. or classic/21 (Especially if you get it on the secondary market), that depends. Personally, I prefer the classic/21 on the small & either on the lg, but that's me. I've had both, but I like the more pronounced finger guard on the classic/21 for the small. For whatever reason, I just don't feel it's an issue on a large handle. However, I do prefer the slightly deeper belly on the reg's. Odd as it may seem (& definitely in the minority), I actually prefer the Umnum for my lg. choice & the 21 for my small choice (A micarta model in my case).

Good luck on your choice.

I'm seriously thinking about getting a smaller version of the Sebenza next year. And also a Busse .

That is a question each purchaser must answer for themselves. I like mine

Don't know why I am responding as it will just be the same thing already said. But I like to talk,so here goes.

The Sebenza is worth the price for me. Not only for me, but for a lot of other people also as CRK sells everyone of them they make. There are people who will not pay the price of the Sebenza because they cannot justify it to themselves, their wives, or whoever. Others will not buy because they cannot afford it, and that is no problem.

You just have to realize that people have different taste, and different budgets. That does not make the Sebenza an overpriced knife. I've read before where people have talked about the Sebenza being a "status symbol", and that is why people buy them. To me that smells of sour grapes and really means that the person wishes he could afford it.

Anyway, as I said at the beginning, nothing new, but a I wanted to say it anyway.

Btw, on the question of small and large, a large is not all that big. My favorite is the large wood inlaid models. The wood sticks out just a hair and really has a better feel to me.

I currently do not own a Sebenza, but have in the past, and am rectifying the ownership part in the form of a large 21 with African Blackwood for Christmas!:D

Im looking to get a new knife and want to splurge a little. I have been looking at the sabenza. Although the $400 or so price of it is a little high, I wouldnt mind spending it if its worth it.
So basically its the high price worth it or is it all hype?

I don't see any diamonds or gold for $400 so I say its not worth $400 in materials or workmanship. Even a Busse knife as tough as it is not worth $600 in materials and workmanship. You can buy a custom one of knid knife for that kind of money.

You really need to hold both and decide. I did and went with a large regular. I forget it's in my pocket, and the blade is perfect in my opinion for my needs. Great knife.

I think the bottom line is yes they are worth it because:

A) People are buying them obviously.

B) If they really weren't worth it nobody would be buying them at the current cost so they would either be cheaper or CRK would end production.

-pretty simple , if it weren't were the price , would they sell as many as they do ? Gold & diamonds are worthless on a using knife by the way...

It's all hype, can of worms, beating the dead horse... Thread number 2768 on: Sebenza, is it worth it?

Kind regards,

"Wow," is all I have to say.

Is it worth it? Well, you have to decide. I do own a couple. They are great knives. They far surpass the quality of any other production folders out there, as far as Im concerned. But I own other great folders too. ZT's, spyderco's, benchmade, kershaws, my own custom folders, etc. etc. etc.

It's all up to you. Most all, who buy one, and actually use it. Find out how great a folder it really is. It's no frills, soley utilitarian (unless of course you get one with graphics, damascus blades, or inlays, etc.), and big on performance.....well that's what thsoe who own them say!

This same question has been asked many times before. There are many happy owners out there. And allot of dissenters also. those that usually are not fans, msot do not own them. or if they have, had never really used them much (if at all), to have a chance to appreciate them.

Come on get real! I just cannot see the $400 worth in a piece of metal to take a photo of and have the fanboy's chant Ooo AHh as no one else will know or care what a Sebenza knife is and its really just an illusion as a Buck 110 will out perform it in all manners for $30 and that's the facts!

It will not out-perform it in all ways.
Buck 110 is okay, but it's not a magical knife that gives perfect performance for $30. THAT is a fact.

Sorry you can't see it , someday perhaps you will be able to understand what precision made knives are about. Granted the Buck 110 is a good solid knife with a long history , but it is not better than a Sebenza , and if you decide to join us back in reality , you will understand that it is not supposed to be. The 2 knives are in different classes all together.

The fact is the Buck 110 is value priced at $30 with the best heat treatment in the business by Paul Bos and the Sebenza is over priced at $400 with less utility and no real advantage other than braggart's rights and wasted money!

Clearly this thread needs more sebenza porn:

Here's $750 of pure hype, braggart and wasted money. :D
