Sacrilege, Sebezabuse or Really Cool? Closed

I wouldn't say it's "butt ugly" at all. Not the way I would mod one but as long as the owner liked it that's all that matters. Even though it's not my style it's hardly anything terrible to me. A stock Sebenza is a very plain Jane knife (my opinion) maybe this just looks a little too pimped compared to the stock Sebenza.

I mod most of my knives to make them unique. To make them "mine". And I have modded a few to sell and they always sell for more than the original. New scales. Modded scales. Acid washes. Stone washes, etc.

To each his own. If you think that the Sebbie is perfect, or "yours" is perfect, then by all means, keep yours and let it look like everyone else's.

I like the mods on this one. Very well done. Not to my taste and I would never do that many mods on my own CRK's but it does look professionally done.

Isn't sharpening your knife modding, people mod for all kinds of reasons, broken tip, ding in the titanium slab, what ever the reason it is their knife and they have every right to what ever they want I just personally don't like it and think it makes the knife look ugly.

Our own CM waved a Sebenza and gave it away awhile back. some folks refused to enter the giveaway but many that also left comments voicing their displeasure with what he was gonna do. He did it and in the end I liked the way it came out much to my surprise. Like I said earlier, if it makes an improvement in function or appearance I'm all for it in this case not so much but to each his own.

BTW, this doesn't belong in W&C, can't you discuss your taste and opinion without resorting to schoolyard tactics?

That's exactly why it belongs in w&c, you called it "butt ugly" in the op......... Pretty much the definition of "schoolyard tactics"

Hypocrisy

Is it a Mayo Sebbie Matt? I'm not saying the radius is sloppy or the holes are rough I'm not crazy on what it does to the profile. Ya don't take a Shelby Cobra and put blinking LEDs and Minecraft graphics on an already beautiful car unless it makes it look nicer or run better.

Even I could do a better hole pattern ... eyeballing it.

You're right, I'll edit out the butt ugly comment but I'm leaving in the ugly.
Fair enough! [emoji106]

I actually agree that it's not aesthetically pleasing. I'm not a huge fan of the Mayo randomish holes, especially when two overlap. I just don't think it's sacrilege, or an insult to the knife/designer/maker.

Now I just need to figure out the one which is not original. I can kinda guess it's the modded one?

The one full of holes is the modded one, both are orignally "Regular" Sebenza models, one small and one large. The small one is the way the large one looked like before the modifications were made, only larger.

I've been building cars and bikes my whole life and as a result of what I did for a living I also repair and do some restoration work to knives as well as vehicles and when something's designed io near perfection you try to maintain it at the same level. The Lanyard pin hole side is ground so thin it looks sharp and like was mentioned above, the randomness of the holes is too much. I think when you're goin' random less is better than more.

I don't believe they should be kept mint in the vault as they are meant to be used mine has scratches and dings all over 'cause it bangs against keys and other knives so I'm not against change but for the better of the knife not to just do something dramatic.

I've seen some Sebbies with "Mayo Holes" done very well and attractively. Honestly, I like variations like that more than I like most of the "Unique Graphic" models that have gem insets and anodized carved curved lines.

I like the holes in the Mayo and I love Matt Cucchiara's Fizzed scales because they're done with style and taste. I'm sure to the guy who modded it thought it looked great. I fileworked the backspring on a Kershaw DWO. I thought it looked great, my buddy said it was too busy but the one thing was it was well done. That was never the issue as I still knew it was a well done ugly knife I did. ;) :)

I hate hole patterns, bothers the crap out of me. I wouldn't mind it too much without the holes though, for some reason the blade appearing to be larger or chunkier appeals to me.

I dig some real gem inserts, titanium, gold, mokume. Some graphic models look like stuff you would buy at a mall.. It pains me. If you are investing high quality materials, make it classy. Love engravings and ruby, tigers eye, emerald, lapis etc.. as long as it is solidly in the knife, and doesn't make me hesitant to use the knife.
Not that I have the money... A THICK full tang solid knife... Something like a thicker, more simplistic, integral, and robust Gaucho knife with an ergo handle.. With some simple engravings, gold, and tigers eye or an emerald.. Maybe some emerald or stones but not gaudy; left raw... Maybe a steel that wont rust. Maybe Checkered gold for the handle, and titanium for the guard and pommel with titanium, and gold for the sheath... :D:thumbup:
