SUPER impressed with what you've done in an OBVIOUSLY controlled and prepared setting. 2X6 boards and pre-trimmed , super dry wood, ultra-clean handle bolts, not to mention a blade that is OBVIOUSLY scuffed only from these pics to make you seem like something YOU'RE NOT.

Good try, though. You take nice pictures. ;)

Speaking only for myself, I get somewhat confused when I look at a thread that says "review", that doesn't really have a review in it. Its just an opinion/complaint about the thickness of the blade. So maybe others are like me, and reacting to that?

That said, you're entitled to your own opinion about the knife. I don't own one, so I can't comment on it specifically, but I can say that over time my preferences have trended towards thinner knives. My once favorite BK2, is rarely used. My BK9 at 3/16 (same thickness as the BK5) is more than enough for my needs. But, my needs/preferences are likely different, so its no big deal to me if you'd rather have it thicker.

Oh, and I do have a BK15. Thats even thinner than the BK5, and even that I feel is nothing close to what I'd use in the kitchen. Its far too thick and unweildy for what I'd consider comfortable proper kitchen use. Maybe camp kitchen use... where you have to build everything, then cook the meal :p.

I hate these type of posts. Another kid that wants to latch on to the group that supports the first "real" knives he's ever owned. Hey, is that your truck?

Don't judge.

I LIKE THE KNIFE

SETTLE DOWN, HATERS.

Look here mang, you don't need to come into our house and talk smack and tell us how much you don't like or agree with our furniture. Then to start calling names; really.... Who's acting childish?

We are a very respectful group, and we all have varying opinions of the the knives in the BKT line. Which means we all have some we like and some we don't. We respect other peoples opinions and we love all knives. For a lot of us the BKT line was a gateway knife line.

If you don't like the knife, for whatever reason, that's fine. You, nor anyone, needs to come here and say why this knife is no good without anything to back up their claims. Like others have said, use it, beat the hell outta it, then come back and give us a proper review. I've personally beat the hell outta one. The only reason it failed was because it found a pine knot, added with a heavy handed baton; most knives would fail.

With all due respect; take your bk5 and get lost in the woods. Come back and give us a proper review.

It ISN'T the posted thickness. 18.8. I believe I made that clear. Kid or not, you're still the kind of person that makes people leave BF. I've seen it again and again over the last 12 years. Dink.

as posted in one of your other threads - the specs are .188" not 18.8 -- .188 is 3/16".

Damn, busted, haha.

This is at my cabin, first time using it, as you can see here. It's even titled first time using. I have the board as a base, so when batoning, it doesn't hit the ground. The wood is out of my wood box. But it was some hardwood. Brand new blade explains the clean bolts. I only used it a few times after this, and decided to sell this, and another BK5 I got in a package deal. Love the blade, but I like the BK9, and BK4 much better, and tend to gravitate more to them.

I have many threads at my cabin, and on several outings. I use my blades all the time.

I wish the blade would have stayed nice and clean, and not scuffed, so I could look like somebody I am.

Hell check History. Mountain men, trappers, fur traders and even Indians used what were basically kitchen knives as survival tools. Historically knives were not generally much thicker than 1/8th of an inch thick steel unless they were purpose built to be abused. The 5 is an outstanding knife as is its little brother the 15. Beat it up before you let yourself be dissapointed. It will surprise you.

Here is a great Review of three years of non stop use and abuse of a 5 by someone homesteading and trail clearing. https://sailingradmode.com/2015/07/09/3-year-knife-review-the-becker-bk-5-magnum-camp/

Blow goat, MANG.

My review: Eat my anus.

That's classy.
A nice classy visitor message you left Nick as well.
If you can't tell I'm being very sarcastic.
What you said was rude as hell and there's no place for that here.
Your half hearted review was very poorly written as well.
Oh wait?.... did you post two threads?....That's wierd....

So let me sum this up.
You're poor and you don't like the BK5.
OK. Fine. It's not for everyone. I can respect that.
But what were you hoping for posting (2) dumpy reviews about the BK5 here in the Becker forum?...
Be honest. What were you wanting?
There are dozens of members here that would have probably traded you any other BK knife for your 5.
But instead you decided to kick down Ethans front door and piss on one of his favorite rugs.
And then lambaste a respected member who disagrees with you?.... Bad form sir. Very bad...

So what were you wanting?
Were you wanting a bunch of others to chime in and say how much they hate the 5 too?
Probably not going to happen in this subforum my man!
Personally I love the 5 and hate to see it go...to me it's a great and under appreciated knife in the lineup.
You want a 1/4" knife?....This statement might shock you...BUY A 1/4" KNIFE.

Do you want consolidation?
What do you want?
What was the purpose of your post(s)?
Let's hear it. And try not to insult anyone else. That's ugly. It's not cool.

I'll tell you a little secret my friend. Over the weekend I traded a 1/4" knife, a set of custom G10 scales, a leather sheath, and a Mora in Kydex. For a BK5. It's a winner and always will be.
Your opinion/review, or whatever that was, is duly noted.

Lmao...
This is a top notch, thoroughly executed first use review where one can set the table for a proper discussion of pros and cons of an item. How do you not get that!?

His point was poorly made, and getting insulted when people didn't understand his intent and responded with something different than he expected didn't help either. The insults get him nowhere, he won't last long with that attitude for sure.

Can't expect to be treated with respect when none is given in the first place.

Yeah...that behaviour should be reported.

I'm sorry. I'll edit that post... Please accept my deepest and most sincere apology.

I would post a screen shot of the visitor message he was kind enough to leave me, but I don't want to get banned for posting that kinda language on the open forum.

Very true young MC!! Respect goes a long way mang.

Insults aside...as well as all the self afflicted interwebz drama.
What does Mr. J.Davey hope to accomplish with these (4!) posts?....
Did he want to let the Beckerheads know that he wasn't impressed with the BK5?
OK. Mission accomplished.
What now Mr. J.Davey? What would you like from us my friend?

Just read it. Dayum.

Right? I thought I was being very respectful with my initial post. I mean what better way to truly know a knife and it's full capabilities than getting lost in the woods with it? I trust my life with my BK5!!!

If you notice, I've been on MUCH longer than most of you. I've never dealt with this 'Company Worship' mentality. I won't post here again, or the KaBar forum. By the way, BOO HOO, NCSlice (who started this back and forth), Nix, and Warrior (I'm sure), you huge narcs...

"You should tell on him for hurting your feelings!!!"
"Oh, I am SO going to!!! His words hurt my feelings AND my butt!"
"Mine TOO!!!"

Ta Ta, Apocalypse Food.:p
