Sad day for me a ZT lover...

I own the 0620, the original M390 version. It's collecting dust in my collection because frankly I won't go near it. Something about that knife doesn't sit well with me. The lock up is very early and takes no effort at all to disengage. It's hard to put into words but the thing makes me feel uncomfortable.

Here it is:

The suspense is killing me, C! I'd really like to finish your book today...provided that it's finished & edited. The unabridged version, please. :D

No matter what I try, I can't get the rest of the reply to post here :grumpy:
I'm going to keep trying or else have to post it in little bits...

^ Well since it's just been sitting around collecting dust, & something you won't go near...would you be interested in doing a pass around, or getting rid of it?

I'm pretty certain that I could put it to good use! :)

As always these kinds of discussions tend to go the same route. Bottom line is when possible you should just use the right tool for the job. Test are fun and fine etc. but it's like a carpenter using the back of his tough cordless drill to hit nails into wood, get a hammer. Just because a knife tip fits into a screw head do you use it to unscrew things? Props to the Griptilian, they're awesome no frills knives. But any frame lock will most likely fail in these circumstances, especially one with a slippery steel insert that doesn't stick to the tang well. I wouldn't pry with my Hinderers even tho they could probably do it, it's just silly. If i ever need to pry my way out of a life or death situation then yeah sure. ZT Markets heavy in the hard use category but they are mostly frame and liner locks, the hard use they could withstand is more cutting and chopping than negative pressure on the lockbars. AXIS locks and Tri-ads are more designed to handle the latter.

If you want to abuse the knife ,and baton with it,get Cold steel Recon1 or Voyager in tanto version.Their lock is way more secura and knives are generally tougher than most of these nicer, more expensive knives.

Because it hit the current feed on my mainpage... Is that not okay? I have a hall pass...

I was thinking about the whole elmax and s35vn, and I think maybe it has to do with being American made vs foreign. (Sweden)

Hi Gideon. Try download tapa talk. Then find blade forum on it. Once that's done, you will be able to just attach pictures directly from your phone and other devices.

No one has posted in this thread in 4 months or so... why in the  ....sigh lol

Gotta love bladeforums.

What did you expect to gain by that test? If the tip snapped off, then what? If the tip did NOT snap off, then what?
Cannot imagine doing that to one of my nice folders...
I mean, it's one thing if you are a manufacturer and are testing the heat-treat or something, but you aren't.

It amazes me how this thread always seems to come back around lol.

Well, I have learned a lot since this thread was originally posted around... 6 months ago haha. Basically... I was comparing this knife that claimed to be "built like a tank" vs. a cheaper, lighter knife that has proven to be a tough little guy. As I stated, this was in my earlier days of higher end folders and knives in general. I really just wanted to learn first hand what knives could or couldn't take. I learned that the Griptilian was overall a more abuse friendly folder the lock and blade helped up better. Well, the lock made me feel uneasy, as ZT used a different type of steel insert on the locking bar which in my opinion messed up the lock geometry and is also why they haven't use that type of steel insert on any other folder since (that I know of). If it took it, I would of kept the knife and maybe bought another. If it didn't I wouldn't trust the knife and I would get rid of it. This wasn't suppose to be a bashing ZT thread or anything... I love ZT's and still own 3 and they are my favorite knives. But as I said, I wanted to test this new lockbar etc and frankly just post the results so others could see it. People can ignore it my thread, or look at it. This is not by any means a scientific test, I just wanted to personally see what each folder was capable of as a new knife person and thought some people online may find it interesting and maybe save them from ruining there $200+ knives doing similar tests XD
