Sage 2 or Sebenza?

If money isn't concern get Sebbie, if money is concern get Sage 2. Sebbie is not MUCH better but it is better, it all depends on if you feel "good" about it.

Buy the large Sebenza, or the Sage 2. I have all 3 and the small Sebenza is just that. I think the Sage 2 has a better grip than the small Sebenza, but with that said i'll keep my 3.:D

freq18hz, You returned a BM Griptilian because it wasn't sharp enough and BM returned a 154 blade instead of the original D2 and you couldn't decide what to do about it. You couldn't sharpen your F1 back to factory let alone beyond.

You're not ready for a Sebenza, probably not a Sage either. Buy something from somebody like United Cutlery, use it and learn how to sharpen it and then start looking at better quality knives.

Hah I love this forum...the sickness of it all...

How you all assume I will EVENTUALLY buy one anyway...

As if there is no choice...=)

Nah, you won't buy one. You probably never had any intention to. Now trolling, that's another story.

Yep, looks like nothing more than trolling with this second thread started. Probably no intention to buy and if there is it's just to torture Chris or Sal with "not worth it posts" or "not sharp enough posts" because there is obviously a predisposed opinion about at least the Sebenza.

A Sebenza in my opinion is just like an Omega watch. It's a jewelry item. You can buy it and appreciate the attention to detail and craftsmanship that went into it. At the end of the day though , it doesn't perform any better. It's just a luxury jewelry item.

-Freq

I think they are too expensive for a tool that can be lost. They are a luxury item, and I am not rich.

-Freq

-$150 bucks or under (don't believe in wasting my money on a name like Sebenza)

-Freq

The Sebenza doesn't cut things any better than knives made of similar materials, with similar engineering, that are a fraction of the price.

Sebenza is a luxury item. A rich mans knife. You pay for the workmanship, and the name (reputation) of the brand.

-Freq

If you think the Sebenza is a luxury item that is too expensive I guess one of Ron Lake's knives would be out of the question, especially the second one that sold for 100X the cost of a Sebenza.

I've been carrying and playing with a Sage 2 for the last couple of days (during my turn on a pass-around), and I'll say that I MUCH prefer the Small Seb to the Sage 2. The Sage is an excellent, very high quality knife. I really can't find any faults with it from an execution standpoint. For me tho, it's a little too wide (to clip in my pocket or on waistband), a little too heavy (to hang in my pocket), and not the right blade/handle ratio. The Seb has a more "solid feel" and rides better. Of course this in all subjective and YMMV as always.

I wanted to post this yesterday when i first saw this thread but it took me a while to get all my thoughts in order.

I own a sage 2 and a sebenza insingo. The Sage 2 is a great knife. The Sebenza is a great knife. I own a Sage 2 and had never wanted a sebenza until the insingo came along. the modified wharncliffe blade on the insingo just made it a must have for me. My suggestion is if you were thinking about getting the normal sebenza 21 save your money and get the sage 2.

I have HAD both..

I have spent no time regretting selling the SAGE..

The small sebenza I miss dearly.. I said when I got it.. I never would sell it.. well I got stupid (again) and sold it.. I am riding with a Dozier folder and it is super nice.. but I still miss my small sebenza..

I also have a Native 4 and Gayle Bradley and they are both super nice.. BUT I STILL MISS MY SEBENZA..

I would say an accurate one. Buy one or don't buy one, but don't keep starting new threads on which one is better.

Are you the tread police? The last post I made was about the Sebenza only.

I hadn't even heard of the sage.

Anyone who doesn't like my threads, doesn't have to read them, or comment in them. =)

Thanks,

This is interesting...

I was wondering about exactly that. I tend to stick my EDC in my change pocket...the slimmer and shorter the better.

To all those accusing me of trolling: You don't have to read, or respond to my posts if you don't want to. This is a knife forum, pretty sure there are more important things for you to do than respond negatively about such a trivial subject.

Thanks,

I got the F1 sharpened, not sure if its to factory sharpness since I used a stone instead of the mousepad method.

But you do bring up a valid point. I'm not an expert sharpener by any means, perhaps a Sebenza is wasted on me?

I do however resent the trolling comment.

Hey bud, I saw "one mention" of that "possibility" so I checked your threads last night and was going to post & didn't, so I will now. I don't think there's anything at all to indicate you're a troll/troublemaker. Persistant as h**l maybe? - well, they named a knife after you :D

You just started threads to ask about your questions on items, how to maintain them, some comparison suggestion threads. I have no doubt that you're just like me. If I have a question and want members with experience to help me in my decisions or through my problems - I post!

That said, I read one of your older posts where you said you thought you should upgrade to Gold to be able to send out a lot of PM's to helpful members instead of starting threads. That's a great idea. I did. :)

Actually I'd like to upgrade...is the private message limit of 40, 40 per year though, or 40 a month? 40 a year I would probably blow through very quickly!

-Freq

Not sure but it's quite a lot and there's a limit but if you reach it, just delete ones you don't want anymore. When I send PM replies there's a box underneath to "save a copy to your sent messages" you just untick it and they don't add up at all. I've had 0 problems with my PM's since upgrading to Gold - and you can sell stuff if you have any knives or gear that you don't need or use anymore. Lots of perks. ;)

So to get back on track here....

Money is always an object to me. My brother who is a knife fan, but generally has a different view on them than I (even though he owns a couple bark rivers) would say that 330 dollars for a knife is an incredible waste, when you can buy something that gets the same job done for 20 at walmart.

I like nicely engineered things though. I looked at the sage 1 and liked it, I'm sure I'd like the sage 2 more.

Yeah I probably just need to decide...I suppose the thing that is stopping me from ordering the Sebenza right away is that it is so nice, I wonder if I would ever actually use it. There is something freeing about having a reliable, but cheap knife in your pocket. You can do whatever you want with it, and never have a care in the world.

These threads really burn a hole in me. Read...buy...or don't buy.: ... :

Dude,

You totally shouldn't have showed me knife purveyor =)

"You're a troll for asking a question!"
"You're a troll for starting a thread!"
"You're a troll for not learning to sharpen!"

Educate y'selves: stop accusing the poor guy of trolling without knowing what it means.

I, do, however, think there's merit to the idea that you should learn to take care of the knives you've got before you drop 300+ dollars on a sebenza.
