Sage 2 or Sebenza?

I vote for the Sage 2. I don't carry my Sebenza anymore because I lost it one for 6 months and I kicked my self for a long time because it was worth so much. If a knife does everything you want it to do for less money, why not get it?

Does anyone know what the closed length of the Small Sebenza 21 and the regular Sebenza 21 is? Trying to see how it will fit in my pocket compared to this mini grip, and a Sage 2.

freq my man, do not buy a sebenza. I own a couple. I love 'm. I use 'm,I know how they work and what they're good for and not. Heck, I might buy some more...
The sage2 however is another story. I don't know the knife. So please buy it and do a big4ss review on it :D
Then post about it some more..

and then make us all laugh when you do get a sebenza later ;)

I guess they both make fantastic knives, love some of my spydeys too.
I often carry a tenacious or persistence even though i have some more expensive spydercos too. 20$ for a knife is good. $400 also.

Go with what you like, cause all knives cut anyway

that is, if you know how to sharpen :p

I have both (large Sebenza and Sage II) and really like them both. If cost is no concern, the Sebenza wins by far, but it is not 2.5 times better than the Sage II in any way. The Sebenza oozes quality and has obviously been refined to a very well high quality and functional design. The Sage II shows machine marks (many marks are left on the contour cuttout on the lockbar) and has sharp edges in several spots but is a quality made knife in it's own right. If you are looking for a 3" knife, the proportions of the Sage II are perfect. I normally dislike finger choils (they waste blade length), but love them on knives that have a stubby handle that feels great when you use the choil. This is very efficient because you carry around a 3.5" knife but get a full 4" handle when open. If you are looking for a very well designed knife and cost really is no concern (the Sebenza is really not worth its price) then you will eventually end up with a Sebenza anyway.

So lemme ask you guys this:

I just got back from a shop where I played with an Umnumzaan.

For the price, I was not impressed.

The ergonomics were horrible for me. Very uncomfortable. Would never spend the $425.

Can I expect the same of the sebenza?

You are putting too much thought into this purchase. Get the Sage 2 and a nice dinner at a steak house.

Handle, decide, buy (or not). It's almost always been the case for me that potential winners were suddenly broken by the feel not being right.

+1

you already said you can purchase a small or large sebenza or a sage 2 without going broke, so get the sage 2 and if you don't like it sell it and get a sebenza.

Start with the sage 2, as that way if it turns out to be perfect for you, you won't feel bad for spending twice the money on a knife that would have done the same thing.

Or you could start another thread, call it "Recommendation? Sage 2 or Sebenza for cutting my oranges" :D

oh and asking will you expect the same "horrible ergonomics" from a sebenza as you did from the Umnumzaan is entirely a personal preference thing. Some hate it some love it. So here's my opinion. buy a sage 2.

Im not sure why this thread has turned hostile...

But I'm really getting sick of being accused of trolling. Go look up the definition, I haven't trolled. If anything, the folks responding with the sarcastic or negative comments are the ones being the trolls. I'll say it for the last time. If you don't like my thread, or what I have to say: Then don't read it, and DON'T POST!

FYI
I can't handle a Sebenza in person right now, so I'm just trying to figure out what people think of theirs comparatively. I didn't care for the Umnumzaan at all, and would rather have this griptilian, than it. The only thing I did like about it, was the texture of the handles, and the blade was very very sharp. The fit and finish of the knife was nice, but the ergonomics for my hand were horrible. I could barely open it one handed.

If you wouldn't have said in other threads that Sebenzas were "overpriced" and "just paying for the name" you wouldn't get the accusations. People in these forums are kind of passionate about their hobby so when you throw out things about a very respected knife that you haven't even held people will be suspicious. The Sebenza isn't a "flickable" type knife ,but, there is no sweet spot in the action. It is perfect no matter how much you tighten the pivot because of the pivot bushing. This is one of the subtle things about it that make it special. It's thinness makes it ride in the pocket very nicely. The large won't fit in a change pocket like I read you like to use. I'm not sure if the small is short enugh for that either. Also when opening if you push straight up instead of tryng to push the blade out it will open smoother. Believe me out of my 60 some knives, Benchmade, Spyderco and many others this knife is the best. If you don't want to spend that much then don't buy the f@#king thing. It won't affect me. I don't work for any knife company.

I wouldn't buy it if you didn't like the Umnum as they're similar enough in ergos that if you didn't like the feel of one, it's pretty safe to say you won't like the other.
FWIW, it's pretty strange someone would go from calling a knife an overpriced luxury item to something they are seriously considering buying within about 3 days. Perhaps a bit more reading and a bit less typing would serve the OP well...

freq18hz - you really can get a lot of info by watching the videos on YouTube of the Sebenza. You can do a Google search for large or small sebenza reviews. There is more info there than you could imagine.

And a big BTW: man you really need to do something about your first and current avatars - whoaaa what's on your mind dude?!! :)
