Sage 5!!! Update thread

the nested liners, peel ply cf and compression lock makes this one very tempting...

if if you give it a straight spine it would almost be like a mini cf PM2 with a deep carry wire clip... Mmmm...

Unfortunately, even though the prototype definitely looks like peel-ply CF, in the video, Eric Glesser mentions that the production version will have CF/G-10 laminate. I'm still probably going to pick one up, but it would have been nice to have peel-ply.

I wouldn't mind paying a bit of a premium for the Sage 5.
I just wished they'd break the mold a bit and churn out a batch with a different steel than S30V. :p ;)

Spyderco should really do this one right and use the Peel-Ply CF.

Which other Spydercos have peel-ply CF vs the G-10 laminate? Is that whats on the Gayle Bradley and Domino?

Not a comprehensive list, but Yojimbo 2 S90V exclusive, atleast a couple versions of the Military including the BG-42, a couple versions of the PM2 composite blade, the Manix 2 and Manix XL S90V... the Stretch ZDP-189 CF variant.
Upcoming Military 52100 Sprint, and a couple others coming this year...

Actually, none I can think of from Taichung. Not what is on GB nor Domino/Dice.

If you look closely at the pix below, you can clearly see the lamination of the G10 and peel/ply CF...
I'm not sure if that's the final configuration Spyderco uses for the Sage 5, but I'm fine with it if they do.
I have the Native 5 S110V with the solid peel/ply CF scales, and I'm sure that adds to the cost, and lowers the weight a smidge.
I also have a Sage 1, which easily is my favorite and most carried EDC, but I'm a fan of the compression lock too.

I really like the little bit of exposed liner jimping, a la Paramilitary 2. Nice detail that I'm glad carried over with the Compression-lock.

I know Sal and crew were hesitant for awhile about featuring their own lock this early in the series, out of modesty, but I am very happy they didn't wait until Sage 8, or longer! :D

I'm extremely excited about the 5. The appearance of a prototype, with the suggestion of a late year release (I believe this is correct) makes me wonder how long this has been in the works. Because this is coming pretty fast.

I love this but I wish they'd keep the blade length at 3.00 inches. It keeps it legal in most places and the extra .14 inches doesn't really matter.
