Sage 5!!! Update thread

Is there any insider info out there on when the Sage5 will hit the shelves? Got one on pre-order and I'm getting anxious.

I understand that it won't be too long. I believe they're on-the-way. They have to go through QC. I've been enjoying the proto for a while now. They should be an excellent EDC.

I hadn't seen this thread until now and am stoked. I have had a Sage 2 in the past but sold it because I carried it more than my much more expensive Sebenzas. I have been passively looking for a deal on another one in the exchange .... until now.

I was one of these Sage 5. It's different enough from my Sebenzas that I can justify having both. The 2 was just too similar in size, materials, lock, etc. to my Small Sebbie to hold on to.

It will be great if the sage series may upgrade to a better steel ... I think they deserve it

I feel like a kid in the backseat headed for Disney - Are they here yet? Are they here yet? Are they here yet?

I can't wait for this knife. I love the compression lock, and having one on a sage will make it a perfect smaller EDC blade for me.

Ya, compression lock + Taichung + Spyderco + compression lock + sage + compression lock will be excellent!

On my pm2 I love the freefall blade smoothness when the compression lock is disengaged. Are all compression lock knives like this? Or is this unique to the pm2? I hope the sage5 is as smooth.

Sal you are awesome. When I first saw you here on the forums I thought it might have been a ghost account. Couple years later here we are, I have been so very impressed by seeing the day by day transaction's. I'm excited for the new sage and I'm excited for you and Eric and the whole spidie team.

^Awesome! How you liking them? Smooth? Does the blade drop when you release the lock? What do you think of the scales? Details please!!

Not quite free falling yet, just needs some breaking in but overall it is very smooth yet very solid, neither of them have any blade play. The scales are very similar to the ones on the KW M4 PM2, I would take a side by side pic but i'm in Denver right now and my PM2 is at my work apartment in Omaha. Very nice knife overall, only thing I can see people having an issue with is that the knife is shorter than the PM2 and that can make manipulating the compression lock slightly awkward.

Got one! In fact I got two :D

How do you like the Compression Lock in a small package?

How do you like the scales?

In the Spyderco 2016 Mid-Year Product Guide the scales are referred to as "textured carbon fiber/G-10 laminate handle scales". So, they're not solid carbon fiber as in the Positron or the usual G-10/CF laminate with a smooth surface as in Sage 1 both from Taichung. Also, they don't seem to be as rough as the Golden peel-ply CF.
