  • Today marks the 24th anniversary of 9/11. I pray that this nation does not forget the loss of lives from this horrible event. Yesterday conservative commentator Charlie Kirk was murdered, and I worry about what is to come. Please love one another and your family in these trying times - Spark

Said goodbye to my hiking buddy this morning

that really sucks man, I had a pyrenees hit two years ago and I still think about her all the time.

Sorry buddy. I've lost some great dogs and the loss sucks. The memories are fabulous though! Remember the good times...

A dog does not live as long as a man and this natural law is the fount of many tears. If a boy and a puppy might grow to manhood and doghood together, and together grow old, and so in due course die, many a heartache might be avoided. But the world is not so ordered, and dogs will die and men will weep for them so long as there are dogs and men. - Ben Ames Williams, Fraternity Village

My condolences...

Billy

I'm sad to hear it. Take comfort in the fact that you were able to give him comfort and rest in the end.

Well said. Sorry for your loss!

Having pets my whole life, I really feel for ya'll. I hope there is a comfort of good times and knowing that your four legged friend is no longer in pain.

Take care, J.

It's better to have loved and lost than to have never loved at all. If the afterlife is as glorious as many claim, then I am certain you will see your friend again one day. Losing someone you love is always tough, but the joy that you brought each other far exceeds the pain of being separated.

I feel for you man, had to do the same thing more than once. It is never an easy decision, but if you truly love something, you can't watch it suffer like that. Some folks will nurse them along much further than they should, keeping the animal living in misery out of their own selfish interest. Dogs will teach you a lot about life and death, about fighting hard and knowing when to let go. It sucks, but it is part of it.

Very sorry for your loss...he sounds like one heckuva a good buddy to have around. Been there a couple of times as well. So many animals have the ability to touch our lives in truly deep, meaningful ways and it's always hard to lose a cherished pet/family member.

Unfortunately, we're facing it again, probably within a year, with our rescued American Bulldog. Got the diagnosis of insulinoma a few months ago so we're enjoying every minute we have left with him.

You have our prayers and sympathies. I've been in that situation many times, and it always hurts. My latest loss was couple months back, my 16 y.o. Sheltie, and my best wood buddy was like yours 9 y.o. and cancer got her 4 years ago. I'm having tears form as I think about her now, so I can't offer any other words of comfort, but to say that they will always be with you.

Haven't even read any of the thread as I know I would get too emotional. My own hiking buddy is getting up there in years and I know I don't have that much more time with him. Just remember all the good times, and know you'll see him on the other side.

Sending smoke buddy.

My fiance wanted me to post another pic. Here he is about a week and a half ago. He could only manage short walks and hikes at the end. His lungs were going, and his knee was sore. He still pulled me along. He is resting here looking at some other dogs he wanted to play with.
