Oooh, I like that! Nice job!![]()
Turned the small blade into a wharncliffe for whittlin'.
Did all the work by hand with a file and stone. SAK steel is not so soft as I've been told.
Now I need to whittle something![]()

Yes, I only removed material from the tip to the ricasso of the original blade. That looks really nice and pointy, is there any nail nick left?

When I had a stockman, I found I used the sheepsfoot the most. This blade will have good utility.Great idea, makes any SAK with two knife blades more versatile.
+1, the sheepfoot, wharncliffe, straight edge blades can be very useful. One of my favorite utility blades is the short sheepfoot on the Victorinox electrician. When I had a stockman, I found I used the sheepsfoot the most. This blade will have good utility.
All we need now are pics of your recent whittling showing the wharncliffe mod was indeed an improvement.![]()

I did a couple of posts ago, but I guess it didn't make an impression+1, the sheepfoot, wharncliffe, straight edge blades can be very useful. One of my favorite utility blades is the short sheepfoot on the Victorinox electrician.

Works just fine!I was thinking that I would like to try and make a 84mm Sportsman with a saw, adding a layer...
I am thinking that the Walker or maybe My first Victorinox could be donors for a saw and spring. Does any one know if the will match the shape of a 84mm with back tools?
I read about that (90 to 84) mod, not something I will try just for funWorks just fine!
The *hard* part is adopting a 91mm backspring to add back tools for an 84mm saw. Haha.
That may also be an option if one wants to ad the penblade (2ndary blade) to the mix (the chisel being a bonus)I have seen examples of 91mm mods with the primary knife blade being replaced by the wood saw. It may also be possible to put the 84mm saw on an 84mm knife layer backspring along with the secondary blade. You can then put a chisel with a washer on the back side. This way you can have both the secondary knife blade and the nail file together on the same SAK.
In other words, 3 layers:
knife/ file/ corkscrew
saw/ 2ndary knife/ chisel
can opener/ bottle opener/ awl
Hmm, yes... well...That may also be an option if one wants to ad the penblade (2ndary blade) to the mix (the chisel being a bonus). The main difference is that I would need more than a "My First Vic" as a donor. I would need the back tool spring, the penblade and chisel. At this time I don´t have those parts...
Yes, I have a Receuit lying around somewhere… If I would change the main blade with a saw from that, that could work as the middle layer… But then it’s adding up to using parts from 3 knives to make 1 instead of 2 to make 1 (even if the left over parts could make another one). I think I need to get more donor knives from that popular auction site…Hmm, yes... well...
Another option could be to grab a cheap used 84mm Recruit model from the popular auction site. That would give you the 2ndary blade and a knife layer backspring without a back tool slot. There would be no place for a chisel. Then you could also make your My First Victorinox into a Bantam.
