Not crazy at all! I have a drawing of this very thing in my idea book! Swappable scales and all.

Cool :) If one would use screws, like you do, one could change the blade/tool when needed. I guess, instead of just a back spring, one would need to make a solid plate with just a cut out for the blade attachment? I would love to see your drawing :)
 
I replaced the scissors on my Pioneer X with a pair of 91mm SAK scissors (which are completely interchangeable) so that the nail nick would be on the correct side. It’s not a very extensive modification, but it was very invasive since it required disassembling both the Pioneer X and a Climber (to harvest the scissors). IMG_4705.jpeg

Do you intend to sell these type of scales by their self? I'm sure people will want them. I haven't seen custom scales like those before. Or will you only use them on specific custom builds?

Obviously you could use whatever color g10 you want. Do you also anodize? Gold anodizing with blue g10 would look awesome.

Thanks! Yeah I sell all my scales separately upon request, I do anodize as well.

So many photos of great SAKs! Does anyone make modified scales for the discontinued Vic Safari or Vic Trooper? I have one I'd like to have done.
 
I gave a lot of thought to finding the perfect EDC SAK.
Finally settled on the Ranger with Plus scales and a FireAnt.
Not sure swapping a scale counts as a "mod" since a scale swap is pretty basic compared to what SOME of you fellas are doing...
But it will meet my needs perfectly!

Thread 'Finished my SAK "Carry Test" - unexpected result.'

I spent months looking for the perfect SAK. Always wanted a "real" SAK but never picked one up. Finally I decided on a Ranger with "Plus" scales (so I could get the pen). It arrived around Thanksgiving. Nov-Feb. It's been 5-6 weeks now of EDC. I concluded that the 5-layer mid-size SAK simply doesn't offer enough utility to offset the size, weight, and bulk. I'd been carrying a little keychain Classic SD for decades, and upgraded to the Classic Signature when it was released (now discontinued, I understand). IMHO the Classic Signature is far superior for EDC than the Ranger SAK...
