Sal saves the day!

I broke the blade on a tenacious opening a meter box lid, broke slap in half.

Broke the tip on an Endura attempting to use it as a screwdriver on a leaking fuel hose on my boat, with clients on board... Knew better but had no choice.

Both totally my fault.

I don't baby my knives but I'm not intentionally breaking them.

I have the knife in my hand and can't find the amount of rust it would take to totally rust out a spacer as they say it did.

What kind of fuel line fitting do you use a screwdriver on?

A hose clamp that's directly attached to the bottom of the pulse pump on a Mercury 3 liter 225 V6, 94 model.

To a quick disconnect or just there all alone?

Had 2 paying clients on board 10 miles (or so) from the boat ramp and the motor wouldn't stay running.

Had no screwdriver or choice, hose was split and it was sucking air to the carbs, no quick disconnects on that motor, but all

hose clamps have been replaced with zip ties, much more knife friendly....

Just get some QD clips. They won't shake off and they're easy to pull off with a set of pliers, Leatherman etc. Something you can keep in the boat's toolchest.

Zap straps aren't rated and and the hose clamps with the hex/slot screw are fine under the sink but not around an engine.

This response from Sal Glesser is one of the reasons his company has been such a success. Very impressive, speaking as a small business owner and the son of a small business owner.

Mercury Marine sells some zip ties with a crescent moon shape on the inside where they touch the fuel line specifically for that use, no "flat" area around the fuel line to leak, great zip ties. They are however expensive and single use.

Normally I have a small tool kit on board with a few feet of fuel line, fuses, spark plugs, zip ties, tools etc but I had just finished rewiring the entire boat a couple days before and forgot to put my kit back in.

Of course I have 3 pairs of long needle noses for dehooking but they are useless for just about anything else.

If you see a picture of the clamps your talking about send it to me, I may swap to those instead.

I agree wholeheartedly.

My experience up until then was... Not impressive to put it mildly.

I had exhausted all avenues beside this one.

In all honesty if he gets it and says I screwed it up no warranty etc I'll buy another Endura with stainless handles because they are what I carry, period.

I continue to be impressed by your involvement in the forums Sal. I know of no other company owner that does this. Hats off to you and Spyderco.

Happy New Year......

Sal, is the very reason I carry Spyderco everyday (PM2 to be specific)...Oh, and they also have kick-ass knives!

Maybe time to change the title of this thread, eh Ryan?;) Looks like things are looking up for your police model.

We shall see. My dealings with them thus far have left me exasperated.

Honestly Mr Glesser's response in the thread has given me much hope, his decision will be the final decision, if I'm wrong I'm wrong and will admit that publicly, apologize and buy my new Spyderco, I don't believe I am...

I will change the thread when the time comes unless a moderator does it first.

Knife will be there Saturday.

I'm not a Spyderco fan boy, I haven't tried to sell anyone on them, when a client sees me cutting bait they ask and I answer (freshwater striped bass guide, not salt, part time), I'm not ready to fight if someone bashes them.

They are just all I've ever carried, every single day... They do for me what other knives can't, come out of my pocket in a fraction of a second open ready to go.

I touched my pocket 4 times today for my Spyderco and it just ain't there.

I have other knives that see hard use. I have a nimravus that does the Gator skinning, a dustar that does the gator killing, a discontinued BM dive knife that lives on my BC, a buck 110 for being an American, but none of them get carried every single day. That's not including my filet knives that filet as many 60 fish a trip.

I suppose I'm a harder use customer than most.

Re fuel, I like these on a gravity fed system.

I like those.

Now I have a Holley mini mite electric pump on it, running 2 psi, I'm sure those would hold that.

It's run thru the pulse pump which is a no no but after popping #6 when the pulse pump gave up in a tournament I'm all about redundancy.
