Samuel Lurquin - A Belgian bladesmith you're going to want to know about.

He sure isn't "lesser known" where I come from! ;) He makes very nice knives indeed!

Which is why I put that term in quotes. Lesser known in one place doesn't mean lesser known in another. And it sure doesn't mean that those who are lesser known can't be very accomplished and producing both admirable and desirable work.

Marcel, I lived in Brussels for 5 years when I was a kid. Went to ISB. Spoke belch pretty fluently but I've probably forgotten most of it... :)

I can't add more than what's already been said, but at least wanted to chime in and say that I find the knives incredibly beautiful and really like the designs. Such fine lines and balance.

I would recommend starting your 2 week European vacation with the Gembloux show and ending it at Milan.

What would be the timeframe for such a tour? I may be able to get free of the sandbox to do that.

Hi Guys

I discovered the work of Sam in 2009, and the character has me at once more.

He made me discover the big knives I who liked especially the folding knives.

Since we became friends, I made him and offered his site (it's not my job) and I manage to order him small knives....

Sorry Sam I know that you prefer the big knives.;)

The last presented knife is mine, it is at Gustaff for the realization of a " sleath bag "

The small with its 12 cms of blade is a damas 600 coats and a handle in chestnut tree

Saddened for my English, As Sam I am not endowed for the foreign languages, and I am helped by an on-line translator

That is a very nice knife!

Kind regards,

Jos

Hey Dirk, How are you? Tell Claude that he needs to sign up for Blade Forums.:D

More participation on these forums by European makers would be most welcome. I know a lot gets lost when using on-line translators, but enough gets through that we can get the gist of things. And the knives themselves need no translation at all.

I completely agree!!! I think it's easy for us to get "caught in a bubble" of what/who's "hot" in the North American circles... and unintentionally remain oblivious to some of the AMAZING work being made in the broader scope of things.

This thread is a prime example of what amazing work we could be missing out on by NOT looking beyond our own back yard.

Thanks again to Lin for bringing this to light and to Roger for the further sharing!!!! :)

I'm glad to see a post dedicated to his work.
His knives are well made and designed as working knives.
Here is the one I got from him a while ago.
