Sanrenmu

It would bother me none. Maybe they could raise the price by a couple hundred dollars to level the playing field.

Clones really don't bother me. I'm not bothered that Honda (or Suzuki, or Yamaha, or Victory) copies Harley. What matters is that I get good value for my money.

So many Harley copies, VTwin engine copies, and yet no copies of a Harley or the VTwin compare to a Harley or have changed a Harley's status quo for Harley riders. If I decide to purchase a sport bike that doesn't change my view of a Harley and what it represents.

I don't care if others decide to ride Harley copies such as Honda and Yamaha its up to them and we are all brothers when dealing with the traffic and the road.

I also love to ride bicycles and you must deal with traffic and worse, aggressive drivers that believe a bicycle has no place on the road.

People should respect each other in all matters.

Good post. Indeed, I respect Spyderco, CRKT, CRK, etc too much to buy fakes of their R&D work.

I don't care if other people buy knives like this, and I have enjoyed our respectful discussion of these issues.

I'm sorry, but if those aren't blatant Sebenza knock offs, I don't know what is.

I went to the site listed earlier and bought a Strider wannabe and an Ken Onion knockoff. ;)

As for me ignorance is bliss as being a new knife enthusiast I do not recognize the "knock off" models and just enjoy it for what it is to me. A very good knife in use and in comparison to the other very good knives that I own and use for reference at a fair price.

I thought this was a bit Strider-esque. It reminds me of the Buck-Striders.

I have two of those (Sanrenmu 704) but I know nothing about the Buck Strider. I just liked the style. . . I have one with a black blade and one polished. The fit and finish is flawless and it sharpen razor sharp.

The Sanremu 710 and PR-703 are even nicer in my opinion.

I ordered four more Sanrenmu 710 and two Sanrenmu GB4-612 ; )

That's funny -- I do not see the resemblance, aside from the texture on the scales. The knive as a whole seems much more square than the angles on a Strider, and it lacks the distinctive leafy-spear point blade shape of a Strider.

Perhaps a lot of this is subjective.

I think they are quite similar.

Oh, I see. I was not familiar with the 881. I was more familiar with the Buck Tarani style.

Yep, that's a pretty blatant copy all right. Thanks for the pics.

Bah! Cheap Chinese Copies for those with no pride in who they are or what they carry.

I may be cash strapped. But I am not cash strapped enough to ever carry one of those.

wildjim, I didn't see the polished blade version of the 704 on the website. I would prefer that over a black coating. :(

When I ordered two they emailed me that one was out of stock. I can't reminder which but sent me one of each instead. The black model is a BR-704 and the polished model is 704 it seems by the description on the Sanrenmu website.

Hogwash. You carry a Stockman, no? An original Stockman? How could you live with yourself carrying a copy like that? Have you no pride?

Knives are tools. If you wish to make them public declarations of character, have at it. But don't expect anyone else to ride that knife nut train.

If Sanrenmu can sell functional knives emulating ones costing many times more, I say neither they, nor their customers have anything to be ashamed about. No wonder they draw such ire from folks around here. They make it more difficult for knife nuts to justify their snobbery.

The Stockman example is a good one, BTW.

A real CRKT M16 is available NIB for less than $15. Sure, carrying a fake Sebbie could irritate snobs, but what does carrying a fake $15 knife say? ;)

For me, it's not about defending the prestige of a knife that I paid too much for. Also, as far as performance/price ratio, a decent $7 folder (that these seem to be) will obviously outscore most $400 folders.

For me, it is about theft of intellectual property. The choices we make and the actions we support are public declarations of character. People can feel what they want, but I for one would be ashamed to purchase or carry such items.

Given the decent steel and the positive reviews from actual owners, if Sanrenmu offered original designs at the same price point I would be all over them.

It says you're not willing to spend exorbitant amounts of money for something else that suits just as well.

I can respect this sentiment. However, there seems to be no actual violation of intellectual property. There is a very cut and dried method for creative entities to declare intellectual property. If those entities cannot or will not take advantage of this system, nobody else is obligated to do so.

This leaves individuals to arbitrarily take up the cause of IP protection on behalf of knife manufacturers who cannot or will not do it themselves. All fine and dandy, but don't ask me to abide by your rule of where the line is drawn.

What boggles my mind is how Sanrenmu can manufacture a knife of that quality of materials and workmanship and still make a profit?

It seems someone is charging way too much and another not enough?
