Sanrenmu

You know what happens when you assume, don't you?

Nice dodge. The facts remain: your grasps of ethics and collecting are spotty at best.

"I know it's a ripped off design; I just don't care." - leaves much to be desired.

On top of that, if cost/benefit ratio is the bottom line for you, why not just carry a box cutter? 3 bucks, easily "resharpened", cuts just like a razor. Does a utility knife not fulfill your cutting needs?

Not mind boggling at all. Take a look at how much a S&W Extreme Ops folder cost, and how much Sanrenmu sells its version for. By the time you add U.S. brand owner markup and U.S. dealer markup, it's the same price. Look at the price for Spyderco Byrd line, which people here consider excellent knives. If you are not a knife collector, a well-made $20 chinese folder (like Byrd Cara Cara) will serve your EDC needs just fine.

If a knife is nothing more than just another tool (like a screwdriver or a wrench, or the like) for you, then go for $20 chinese knife. If you're passionate about knives like most of us, then feel free to buy branded production knives for $200 or custom ones for $2000.

I do not understand Chinese or Asian culture as it seems they copy many items and at times making them better as with bicycle parts. Perhaps its honorable for Asians and an offence to Americans? In the end we all need to accept and respect each other. . .

My knife interest is practical need as you say a tool, however I do respect the design of Chris Reeve and as with Fender Guitars and Gibson Guitars he will survive the Asian and other copies of the design.

I've watched some DVDs about primative forging of knives and it really appeals to me. I probably will not buy a Tai Goo knife but I would like to attend his class and with his help forge a knife myself, maybe someday.

Theft is theft..and it is offensive in all cultural morays. You are supporting people who regardless of their ethnicity are thieves. Steeling Reeve designs or GM, or Fender guitar etc. is a crime. To say well we all need to respect eachother is true. But if that means accepting theft. That is where I draw the line.
