Forum Friends: Heads up that I sent $300 to @Sao2 three weeks ago for a small Sebenza and I still don't have any knife. He responds to 1 of every 5 emails with the same basic message - something like, "I'm busy at work, I sent the knife, you never asked for any receipt or tracking, I'm checking with the post office, take it up with PayPal and they'll see I did everything."

I gave @Sao2 the benefit of the doubt for several weeks, even checked with the post office several times, then yesterday saw that David L David L posted that @Sao2 sent him an empty box for a $170 purchase. Now I'm convinced that @Sao2 is scamming for money. David L David L got the same basic response from Scott - I did everything, you're lying, take it up with PayPal.

I'm new to the forum and to buying things online from people (as opposed to Amazon) and have only done one previous transaction here. @Sao2 asked for payment "without any fees" so I send the money "friends and family" because he had 6 positive transaction. (Definitely won't do that again, and am now seeing all the threads on why *not* to do that.) I don't have recourse through PayPal, I assume, but wanted everyone to know about this situation. Plus, I'm looking into filing a small claims suit against him - for sure I'm not the first guy scammed on the Internet to see what he can do!

Here's my thread: https://www.bladeforums.com/threads/small-insingo-21.1607539/#post-18361100

Sorry to hear about your issue. You should probably make him aware of your thread here. He likely won't respond, but who knows .

One of these days people will learn about paypal FF ......... It's not for purchases and anyone using it for such is actually being dishonest. Dishonest people steal and take advantage of others - surprise.

Immediately take it up with PayPal anyway- They need to know the guy is a scammer and they've been known to be sympathetic. There's nothing to lose.

Have you learned anything? Personally if the PayPal Fees are a concern it's a red flag for me and you shouldn't be buying or selling knives.
Thanks, I took it up with PayPal - filed a claim online - but b/c it was Friends & Family the only claim I could make was that it was an unauthorized purchase, which isn't true. I called PayPal and plead my case and they - amazingly - gave me a one-time pass and refunded the money, saying that since I've been a member since 2003 and haven't had anything like this happen, they would support me. It probably also helped that David L David L filed a claim against Scott via PayPal, too.

Wow I've never heard of them doing something like that — you're very lucky indeed!

Thanks, friends, for the responses and advice - I consider myself initiated into BladeForum (and Internet peer purchasing, in general) and wiser for it. Happy knife hunting!

A lot of the people who meaningfully participate in this forum outside of the FSOT forums will only accept G&S both for the seller/buyer protections and out of principle.

While not everyone using F&F for sales is a scammer (of the buyer, anyway), F&F facilitates scamming.

But people continue using it from ignorance or greed or both. IMHO aside from scammers, the worst are the ones who just lazily say "Net to Me." It's bad enough they want to scam Paypal, now I have to calculate their sale price for them?

Wow - You dodged a bullet! Congrats and welcome to BladeForums

So the question remains if there are there going to be repercussions for Sao2 from BF?

I've only got 1 knife on here from another member but will buy more in the future but those that ask for friends and family payment and those that in bold type declair that once shipped it is out of their hands and not their responsibility past that point blow me away and I just skip over that crap.

Wow Awesome!! The PayPal Fees are really minimal to begin with and being fair like this is reason enough not to complain- Look at what the alternative was.

So what are you gonna get with the refund?

This in my opinion proves the value of PayPal Fees and makes a mockery of anyone who asks for F+F in a Transaction.

The fraudulent use of "F&F" speaks to the nature of an individual's character. To what depths might their willingness to employ deception sink to?

Thanks, all - appreciate everyone's support. Definitely want to hear from David L David L what happens. Also, need to give a shout out to @thegreatwhite who sold me my first knife on this forum (ZT 0450 G10) - as a first-timer I sent him funds Friends & Family (he *did not* ask for that) and he immediately refunded me the money and asked for me to send Goods & Services, which I did. I didn't understand at the time exactly why (though I do now given what happened with @Sao2!) but am grateful for honest people like @thegreatwhite!
