SAR5 unpopular?

The SAR is about the most unimpressive Busse I have seen.
It looks too much like Grandma's old kitchen knives.
No offense, to those who like it. :)

LOL ......Cooler heads...WTF !

I'm as cool as they come baby..

Not you, me. I have a low tolerance for hit and run posts saying something is "the worst" and then vanishing without an explanation.

I appreciate you coming back and explaining your opinion. All be it totally and completely wrong ;) but its your opinion and I respect that. :D

If granny has a Busse SAR5 as a kitchen knife then that is one bad azz granny! :D I'd hate to see what else she would have stashed around...

No problem from me - not everyone likes the same things.

I had my SAR5 out for a bit yesterday and was looking at blades in similar lengths and "function" styles and the closest I came for comparison type (not quality) that I had was the Ontario Randall TAK. They both seemed to have a similar "style" and feel. I have found the TAK to be very functional and I imagine the SAR5 will be the same. I haven't really got to put my SAR5 through full paces yet.

I do like it because it is different.

Nahh
I mean WORST Busse I have ever used. period

It is only my opinion. I use most of my blades.

First day I got it I took the sar5 out to the forest for work.
I really wanted to like this blade, believe me. It did not look too bad and felt ok in my hand. It just could do nothing right. Horrible for chopping, cutting. I put it through all the paces like I do for my SJs.
Jerry was right.. ...
If ya like this blade, cool , awesome. Different strokes for different folks.
Thats the beauty of Busse.. Soo many blades to choose from.. If ya don't like it sell it and buy a different model.
I find the SJ supreme for this size catagory. I still think the SAR5 might be ok for kitchen duty if satin and convexed..
Can't go wrong with the initial price though. Thats what sucked me in..

I meant ...

Worst =SAR5. WHich I concur:)

Best = Busse:D

NOT both for Sar5. IT may be a Busse , but its the only one I dont like;)

its cool for the price and limited #'s, but lets be honest....

It's FUGLY!

I actually like mine a lot. I had a feeling lots of folks wouldn't like it with the unusual ratio of blade:grip but it works for me. It's not a chopper. It's not an EDC blade. It is a really stout but agile blade with a grip that won't get lost in a gloved hand. Mmmmm me likey.

It's all good.

I was going to go into further detail but had to break away from the computer during my initial post. I see your point.

I felt the handle was as jerry described it - that of a claw hammer. The ergonomics of it are like those of the larger pbf's - they get fatter at the pinky, the weakest part of the hand. while I like the idea of no choil for the most part - I don't use knives like the basic gaurdless mora's because I feel them dangerous during extended heavy use when your hands, forearms and shoulders are fatigued and shaky. the edge is just low enough that if I had grease on my hands, I would not feel safe using it. the edge is thick, and the grind is 3/4 saber convex - meaning it goes from thick to thicker very quickly.

all in all, I would say that to me it is by far the worst designed busse I've seen, which is in line with jerry's own comments, given that it was a proto drawing and not intended to ever see the light of day (with the immediate presence of a completed finalized drawing right next to it).

however - they are cheap. and they afford a bit more room for modification sans choil then most busse's, so they are worth it to me for modding reasons. I'm hopeing that by shaving off the backside spine of the butt and large pinky side finger groove to induce an overall finger swell the handles will become toleraby for my midsized hands.

I love the SAR5. Its prolly my favorite Busse I own. I can see why many people don't like it but those reasons are why I like it. I am not a fan of large choils and this definitely fits that.

Well i dont have one and never have......... so i will take donations of unwanted SAR'S. Heck ill even pay the shipping to get them here.

Its a Busses, how bad can it be?

Im just trying to help........................

Cartophilis.........im a giver..........

Actually, I think the SAR5 is better than most of the recent crop of knives in that size range. It has way more blade for it's overal length. It has more blade than the BATAC. It is a great design for those that use their knives. Way better than the BATAC, and SOW for example.

Oh and I talked to the bozz who told me that the knife is actually one of the most utilitarian designs ever, even if it's looks do not match. Typical bushcraft blade is what the bozz said. now what?:D

For what I use a knife for it is one of the best designed knives.

I agree with Tony. The SAR5 is a great knife for cutting panties off of lingerie models.

i'm gonna have to agree on the looks. also, if all these people think the handle is too clunky/big, i would find it huge and unwieldy. hopefully the sar4s will have a better handle.

I love the look of the Sar5. No choil is a real winner in this corner. Some people must have some really small hands if the SAR5 handle feels too big. It i a lot of knife in a small package. More blade than the batac, with less handle. It's not a chopper, but that is not the primary purpose of my knives. I wish that Jerry had a claw hammer that he used as the model for ALL future Busse knife handles. No radical bumps an swells. No golf balls in the middle of the grip. Just pure ergonomic bliss. Sar5, IF YOU DON'T HAVE ONE, GET ONE!
