Ok, I've been looking at this one for a while now and it's appeal is getting better....so yeah I'd have to say Jerry has come up with yet another good knife....But,

What happen to the FreakingAssCool original black and white design? You know the one that jumped off the page and screamed I will save your life in field! The one that was different, new, with cool curves and a slotted thumb ramp, and a kick ass subtle swedge, and a very cool saber grind.

What I'm seeing in living color is a flat grind (again), flat spine and a flat longer swedge that looks as if it got thrown in as an after thought. Where'd all the cool curves go?

I'm sure I'll get one....hell it say Busse on it for cryin out loud don't it, but dang guys....I thought we were going to see something real different in this one. Oh well......:(

I have to agree.
I realy liked the concept drawing but the production looks toooo much like a modified SJ TAC to me.

I'm totally with you Solstice. When I saw the original drawing, I couldn't wait to get my hands on one.

But now that I see the pictures of the SARsquatch, all I can say is, Pass.

I didn't like the initial concept design, and much prefered the sar5 for it's novelty.

This rendition of the satin jack scale knife incorporates a lot of stuff from other knives, and a few new items. the finger swells are noticeably more pronounced then the satin jack, with 2 textures on the scales which gives off a fusion handle look on the front end. I don't know if the tip is new to busse, but the only knife that comes to mind for me is the rhino tip variant, but smoothed out instead of angular. unlike the satin jack the tip is higher up, giving it more belly, and with the tip coming down as it does, it gives off a e-handled series tip vibe, looking noticeably stronger then the satin jacks tip, but potentially just as good at penetrating with the addition of the swedge. without the swedge I have a feeling that it would look blunt and thick at the tip.

to me, it looks like a beefed up satin jack, less finesse and art but more strength and utility.

as far as the transformation from sketch to knife - the swedge was just made more apparent, the sketch would be difficult to put on the knife giving how unpronounced it is. the handle mostly has texture on it, otherwise it's very similar. and the one major difference is that jerry didn't put the spine hump separating the handle from the blade. I don't know what type of grind he's putting on the sarsquatch, but it doesn't look immediately like a "flat grind" to me. I would expect a lower line for the top of the grind, showing off a very apparent high saber if it was a true flat grind. jerry's convex grinds tend to be much harder to tell where the grind ends at the top in pictures. it could have either. the sketch looks much more like a flat high saber then the picture does.

the sketch doesn't look like a busse to me. it looks more like a krein or dan kosters work. the picture is unmistakably busse.

I was actually going to bust my butt working this summer to pick one of those up.
The concept is sweet, the production..naw
Pass here.

Although I am going to have to look into those comp hell razors, hope they made enough.

I'm really into the prototype but will probably pass on this version... who knows, it might look really good in satin/micarta

I actually like the production version better. It just all comes together nicely for me. I do see where you guys are coming from, there are quite a few differences compared to the drawing.

This is one sweet looking blade. Take it easy bro, have a scotch or two and settle down. Then, and only then you will realize the beaty of this INFI baby.

Yea, That is the question.. WTF happened???

ehhhhh.
disregarded just like the rest of the TACs ..... :barf::barf::barf: SAR 0/2

I agree that a saber grind would have been nice.

Still, it looks like it will feel great in hand. Hard to judge size precisely even though there are a few objects in the pic for contrast.

Whatever the case, I'm down for that black/black if it's micarta I'm looking at.

I agree teh concept drawing was cooler. But I wonder.

1. I'd prefer the convex to a saber grind.

2. The thumb-ramp area is probably a PITA to deal with production-wise. Perhaps it was to keep costs reasonable.

3. Swedge looks a bit overdone. I wish it blended better - like on the SAR5.

4. All it really needs is to fix that swedge and to put some thumb-notches on the spine.

5. We're all a bunch of liars and lemmings. We all know we'll get at least one each anyhow.

6. I'm a bit concerned the handle near the front talon hole is a bit TOO thin. I liked the thicker feel of the BATAC than the SJTAC in that area. Something I always felt was lacking on the SJTAC. In reality, this is my only big concern. I can have that swedge reground and thumb notches put in after the fact if that's a HUGE concern of mine. ;)

It sounds like i appreciate the final design a bit more than you...

But I agree completely with everything else, I was looking forward to a "radical" busse

Looks like the BIBB tip to me.

way different than the sketch

I have to admit I am a bit disappointed also. I liked the swedge better on the concept/SAR5. I also liked the sabre grind in the concept. I for one like the thiner handles. Which is way I bought a SJTAC and am selling my BATAC. I have smallish hands and when I add leather gloves it can make a knife feel wrong in my hands.

I am not sure if I'll try to get one of these when they are offered via the website/company store. I agree with Dennis; it would be nice to have the thumb groves. I guess if I get one I'll just have thumb ridges added.

No Doubt! Like I said, I'll be ordering one for sure. Especially if I can get one in satin and tiger hide.

But is it what I expected...nope!....am I disappointed....yep!.....but is it still a Busse....Hell Freaking Yeah! And I know that I can always get my money back if I want to. Resale on a Busse is always equal to or better than what you paid for it.

I just wish that this one had turned out like it started.....and it appears I'm not the only one who feels that way.

I'm with Solstice on this one. The concept drawing is much better. Granted, the production will do what is was designed for. The double texture on the handle is nice. But it just doesn't have all the benefits of the concept. The grind, swedge and big importance on the thumb ramp. It does, however, have just about the same handle design. All one would have to do is machine out some material off the top of that blade to make the ramp/swedge. No big deal, it is still a Busse....but I wonder what the SAR4 is going to be like.

I'm completely diggin' the handles on this one. But a blade that size, I would probably reach for my RatWeiler or HOGFSH first...

I completely missed the dual textures on the slabs. It does look like a much different blade than the design, but I still dig it. With all that belly it reminds me of an old butcher knife. :D I am looking forward to getting one in hand at the show (crossing fingers) to see how she feels.
