Sarsquatch.....What Happened???

More buckets o'Bourbon!

Can we get a shot showing the spine a bit better in profile. Seeing the concept next to the cutout has chilled me out.

Let's all just blame Nikon. ;)

EDIT - seeing it next to to the TAC, DANG that's big. I want at LEAST one. :)

Wow - sorry to have doubted you, Boss.

Mmmmm... I NEEDS me one of these. Definitely looks like a user in the making.

I am sticking to my first post on other thread on Sarsquatch.

I will take one....

hundred!

:p

also look at choil in above pic. It looks like it has been rounded off nicely to aid in use for choking up.

See the straight edges on the SJTAC. Maybe the angle but ...it looks comfy

This is a superb knife...especially when you put it next to the jac. As I always say, Busse's always look far better in person than what the initial photos would have you think.

Wow...

PM thanks for posting the comparison shot to the SJ. Like someone said, I was thinking in was basically a SJTAC "variant", but it's much bigger. Anyone have any idea on the thickness?

Yowza!!!. . . Either you guys are drunk or the pic that I posted is really screwed up. . . . I'll have to go with the pic.

The SARsquatch is so incredibly close to the initial drawing that I am dumbfounded by these responses . . . .

Only very minor modifications were incorporated after prototypes were made and problems with thumb ramp and palm swell locations were identified.

Here's the original drawing above a tracing from an actual SAR blank.

You can easily see that the palm swell was too far towards the butt end of the knife. Look at it in respect to the center handle tube.

We dropped the point of the blade just a fuzz as well in order to get it more centered with the handle.

IT IS A SABRE GRIND!!! The top of the grind stops approx 1/2" from the spine. It is a convex sabre grind. . . this gives enormous strength to a relatively thin 3/16" thick blade of such size.

The thumb ramp was also moved back a bit in order to facilitate folks who have thumbs that are less than 6 inches long! (Look at it in respect to the front guard hole)

SARsquatch Specs:
Blade = 7"
Blade width = 1 7/8"
Overall Length: 12 5/8"
Thickness = 3/16"
Coolness factor = Off the charts!!!

The SARsquatch DOES NOT have TAC handles. . . . They are a completely new design! They are, in my opinion, some of the most comfortable handles we have ever produced. Below is a drawing of both handles.

The SARsquatch is also nothing like a SJTAC. . . See pic below. .

The SARsquatch will have a huge following and those who miss out because of their misinterpretation of one pic verses a pencil drawing of the initial idea will have missed out on a killer blade.

I can assure you that I will not be posting any more of my pencil drawings in the future!!! Yowza!!!!

Let's drink!!!

Jerry :D

Thanks for the perspective Jerry, I think it helps a good deal. I am glad to see a scale comparison with the SJTAC as well. It firms my resolve to snag one of these. I like your pencil drawings by the way. :D

I was openly critical and extremely skeptical about the ASH1 until I got one. Oh the REGRET! I wish I could get 5 more at least, and they are my favorite.
This SARSQUATCH is killer looking and looks to be super comfortable. I can't wait to get one, especially if the comes in Satin and the Competition Finish. It will be the perfect companion to the MiniMuk!

This has the potential to replace my current field favorite, my Hell Razor. That is saying a lot, because i LOVE my Razor. I like it, and I want one, tan slabs all the way.

Will these be offered at the Busse Combat Knife website in two weeks? Will muddy be a standard option?

Folks

READ THE POST!

ITs 3/16th" thick

Its a Convexed Sabre Grind

I'd say it was BOTH:thumbup:;)

I'm with MMIAB and Voracious.

Maybe because I've been a R&D 'guy' for over 35 years?? Maybe I'm more used to seeing the flow between concept, pencil drawing ... down to production piece??

At any rate, the photos look like reasonable, small improvements over the drawing to me. I'll even admit that my thums are a bit shorter than 6". Of course, I'm going to get the chance to handle one at Blade, and that does make it easier.

But ... there is NO doubt I'm buying this design! :D If you're thinking twice, perhaps you might want to think yet again.

Anybody in NoVa area who'd like to handle one should feel free to ask me for one of mine. As a trade ... a very brief trade. :)

I'm sittin' here looking at the GW I have up for sale, and it is 3/16". That is thin! A chopper that thin will be incredible. Bring On The SARSQUATCH!

Sorry, HOGS! I can Read! And now let me say this---
JERRY, I LOVE THAT KNIFE!!!

WOW -- that's a biggun!

Can't wait to see this one in person at BLADE................

Next you'll be asking to "see his etchings." ROTFL!!!!

From teh "Here's the Squatch" thread back in Feb'rerry:

You can see from the pic that this has been pasted together about 400 times and there are numerous erasures but in the end I think we have a really cool blade!. . . . The stock is 3/16" for lightweight carry and features a near full-height convex grind. The spine is flat and is perfectly perpendicular to the edge. There is a very small drop in the point that runs approx. 1 3/4" from the tip which you will note is only above the sweep in the cutting edge and therefore will not cost you any necessary spine slamming area. This small drop brings the point of the knife closer to the center of the blade while greatly increasing the penetrating power of the blade. The first ever thumb notches are planned for this blade and only ride above the ample choil (for gloved hands) and will add a bit of extra control when choking up on the blade. Their location will, again, not cost you any loss in spine whacking area over the straight part of the cutting edge!

The guard is extra long and will ensure that your hand never slips past it and onto the cutting edge. . . The handle is extra long features a flat faced hammer butt that is at an exact 90 degree angle from the centerline and cutting edge of the blade. This allows the maximum amount of energy to transfer to the tip when pounding on the butt of the knife. The lanyard hole has been recessed into the handle for protection while pounding and during other forms of heavy use/abuse.

(I bolded the only thing they didn't add in the final design.) Everything else is as Jerry promised sometime near Sadie Hawkins Day. In fact, I'm betting the tip is even more centered on the axis for better stabbing power.
