It's just SJs.

BUT, back when, on the Busse web site. the SJ was billed as the 'only straight handle Busse offers'. This was during the Ergo era, 02,03.

Still, SHSJ sounds stupid to me since there was never a Ergo version.

That about sums it up right there. :D

The SHBA always made sense to me as there also are the BA-E, BAIII and the BATAC (did I miss any) and a means of differentiating between them was needed. With the Satin Jack there have only been two (not counting the varients) so SJ and SJTAC is really all that is needed. IMHO

I concur with this logic :)

It's a SJ, not a SHSJ...

But go post a WTB for a "Satin Jack" and see how many offers you get for a Tac. It does seem that many people understand the SHSJ to be the old ergo line, and SJTAC to be the new line.

Maybe this thread will go a long way to reclaming the name of Satin Jack...

I see people refer to a Satin Jack Tac as simple a Satin Jack often enough that saying SHSJ is plenty welcome as far as I'm concerned. At least I know exactly what they're talking about when I see their post or thread title.

I see it sort of like people saying FFFBM instead of FFBM. It's not exactly correct, but close enough and at least I know what they're referring to.

I'd like to call 2 or 3 of them "mine." :)

I agree. Heck I'd be happy with 1 SJ. Don't get me wrong I like my SJTAC but I would like to have at least on of each. The SJ looks like it would be a mean fighter.

I am still calling it a SHSJ regardless. I also refer to the term FFFB instead of FFBM ? Which one is correct there?

That is my exact logic pertaining to this situation

So I find saying SHSJ gives off an instant distinction without any question.

ok I see how this has occurrred and I agree with both sides to some degree:p

But, since we are doing a poll and explaining etc. THe SJ is technically correct I believe for the original SJ and SJTAC is the new one.

I use simple reasoning to concur this because if you pop the scales off of the
SJ there is not one SH knife that you could swap slabs with.

However, the original SJ slabs will fit all the Generation III handles.

Example, BA III, SJ's, Tankers, Nicks and others etc all have the same generation three handles.
Even though the rear talon hole/butt maybe ground off. The handles still fit

MMM a snakeskin NICK!

So, the use of SH is misleading to newbies that havent done any homework, but it sure makes it easy for everyone to " get it quick" and know the difference from the SJTAC's.

If everyone used SJTAC then there would be no mistaking the real deal "SJ" when its offerred:thumbup:

but to each his own

lets just call it JACK, but it is definitely not an SH.

Ditto. I don't know who keeps referring to them as SHSJs, but it may simply be a case of "SH" envy or it could be that they haven't been around long enough know the differences between the various iterations of SJs that have come out. In other words, it may be easier for some folks to call SJs "SHSJs" to avoid being confused themselves. Whatever...it's just a name to me and I can usually figure out what it is that folks are talking about. But technically speaking, as others have pointed out, SHSJ is not correct.

The skunkster calls it a SHSJ, and Jerry thats good enough for me. :D

They are drunk.

Above is an old SJ next to a BBSHSH and a SHBA.

Do it have the same handle? NO

Well then it ain't a "SHSJ" no matter what anyone says.

Below, the top two knives here are BA-IIIs.

Do them two knives have the same handle as an old SJ? Yup them two do... would you have me call them SHBAs?

No you wouldn't because.... errrrr they don't have straight handles.... simple isn't it?

Maybe it's just me but I find it confusing that some on here refer to the original Satin Jack as a SHSJ.
I always thought it was known as the SJ and was available during the Busse ERGO era.
If we call them SHSJ shouldn't we also call the Badger with the same handle a SHBA3????
Anyway the poll is should the knives in the pic below be called SJ or SHSJ????

 piglet

I think they could be called "Old School SJ" however, I will agree that mostly for the newbies "SHSJ" would make it a little easier to understand. Of course, they will have to know what a SJTAC is.;)
