Scagel Tributes!!

A Arathol , nice pair of knives!! How did I completely miss those???:eek:
They didn't seem real popular when they came out and there wasn't a whole lot of discussion here. I think at the time the Fruitport was the flavor of the day, the Dogwood didn't get a lot of attention. When they were discussed there was always the issues that they looked too fat, the blade was too thick, the nick was in the wrong place etc.....There were not a whole lot made and they were not around for long.
These were made by Queen, finished by Bark River. The blades are ATS-34 and have the Bark River convex edge, very sharp.

Tried to send you a message, Arathol!!

Not a re-pro, but I got to see this on vacation last September. Worlds most influential knife?

Duncan, the guy who altered those Scagel repros used the internet name,
"Oupa"!! The handle on the one with the Oupa-made arrow, used wood salvaged from William Scagel's workbench!!:eek:
@Campbellclanman
Dirk Poitier. Got a reconstructed Scagel from him too. His trademark embellishments were the hammered shield and a carved flame pattern on the blade. Haven't seen him around for a long time. Wonder what he is up to now.

Thanks airyq airyq !! Haven't heard about him for a long time!! I used to have a collection of his altered knives: now all have moved on to other caretakers!!OupaRollOpen.jpg

Great idea for a thread, Charlie!
My one and only. KSF made these after they acquired the Scagel brand name. This is the Fruitport model, named for the town where Scagel had his shop, Fruitport, Michigan. They did a nice job on these.

I've heard of Scagel knives, of course, but really knew nothing about their history. Imagine my surprise when Peregrin Peregrin mentioned that Scagel had a shop in Fruitport, MI! That's only about 30 miles from where I live. If I started looking for yard sales in Fruitport, do you think each of them probably would have a Scagel or two available?? :rolleyes::D

Those are nice ones, you ought to be feeling remorse for passing those on. But again, it is a good feeling when you pass on some of your treasures to others whom you know will treasure them too. All the best wishes to Dirk, hope he is well. If I remember correctly, he was getting on in age.
