If this is in the wrong place, please feel free to move it. Since the war started I have been swamped with orders for knives from guys who are shipping out on short notice. I have stuck out my neck on occasion to make sure that the guys would have knives available to them before they deploy. I received a call on Saturday from a guy who mentioned another well known maker and told me that the maker was out of knives and that he had recommended me as a source for a knife. He had the whole story down pat. In an effort to help out another serviceman, I ageed to
send him out a knife 2nd day air and he would send me a MO out via Priority mail. So far I have not received a money order. I decided to call another maker and ask if he had received the same type of request . He and I started to compare notes and the same guy called him twice from the same phone number that belonged to a female who denied knowing this person. The guy gave him a different name , but gave him the same shipping address that he gave me. He called my friend back from the same number again trying to disquise his voice using another name and shipping address in the same state. I can not post his name yet as UPS is doing an investigation. I just want other makers to be aware. I'll add more later when I get back home.

I want to thanks everyone who has devoted time to catch this *******. So far There are three people that were contacted or gave knives and I am sure there are more who we do not know about. I have not posted his name because it seems that he has several variations that he is using. I have some good contacts who are trying to pin down his real name. Once we do that then we can contact the authorities to stop this guy from pretending to be one of our nations finest. A big thanks to Big Wave Dave for getting the ball rolling as the scumbag just happens to live in Indiana. I will keep you posted as we gather more information.

Bobby

Let me know if there is anything I can do to help. Email me the address that you shipped the knife to if you want.

Mike

That makes me feel sick!:barf: It seems like there is always a scumbag that will take advantage of good people who want to do the right thing. I hope you catch him quickly and I hope that he gets some jail time over it.

Thanks to all who do their best for our troops. It's a shame some people try to use that for their own gain.

Hi guys...

This is my first post on BladeForums. I generally just lurk and absorb the great information and advice provided here, but this thread has brought me out into the open.

Once this guy is found, I hope the judicial system lands on him like a ton of bricks. I`m an attorney and court commissioner in Wisconsin, and he`d certainly be shown justice, as justice is supposed to work, where I practice.

I`ll keep monitoring this thread. If there is anything I can do to help from a distance (or by telephone), please let me know.

Thanks...and it`s a pleasure to be part of your BladeForums community!

Bobby,

Very sorry to hear about this !

Post the POS' critical info (e-mail addy, snail mail addy, phone #, etc.).

A friendly reminder to all to always send knives insured...
(which, I assume, is what you did)

The little bastard took me for a Brend Production Hawk. It really burns me when a guy like that take advantage of my patriotism to steal from me.

I sure hope his cell mate likes his tight little butt when he gets sent to Federal prison for mail fraud.

Phil

The problem we are having is that he has been using 3 different names and two addresses. We are trying to find out his real name before we move in. He has a lot of people pissed at him and this is only from 4 guys on these two forums. He'll regret this scam.

Bobby

Thats really sad to hear something like that! I was in the first gulf war (nov.90-apr.91) and I can say from experience that many are issued knives, and the ones who are not usually have pretty good oppurtunities to purchase them before they end up in the field (and at times you can find some there also). Its really dissapointing to think someone would do that. I will pray that the person doing this will stop, and also that they will do whats right.

Bobby,

I'm really sorry to hear about this. I hope you catch the guy. I hope this doesn't keep you from helping others. If you get a request like that again, ask them to fax you a copy of their military ID, (and maybe their base and unit). That way the military can help track them if this happens again.

Good Luck,

Pam

Thanks Pam, It will never stop me from helping others. It is in my nature and I will never let anyone change that. I will however, be more careful next time. I have not been burned in 17 years, so I must be doing something right. Good advice just the same.

Thanks

Bobby

Keep us posted!

Guys like that need to burned. For the Military Id part only if it is a legit company.

I don`t hand my id to anyone or make copies unless i know it is good to go even then it a hard decision to make!

If I can help let me know, i will do what i can.;)

make sure he is not using a name of a friend currently serving. ID theft is getting bigger by the minute.

Have the knives sent to their military unit address with signiture required. They have to be picked up personaly and signed for from the unit mailroom(more paper trail). Unit mailroom clerks will recognize any fake names or unknown persons and would likely send back packages. Fake military addresses will probably never make it and returned. Post Offices on post keep a record of everybody so if they don't know who it goes to it will go back.

Bobby and Phil..sorry you got screwed..
1. anyone claiming using this war to steal knives is a POS
2. I know Indiana like the back of my hand send me the addys..when Im in the area ill check em out..
3. dont F**K with the devils trailboss.. or his knife buds..
