Scammed out of a Grail

Back in the old'n days, they used to have C.O.D. A quick check on the UPS site suggests that this is still an option: https://www.ups.com/content/us/en/shipping/time/service/value_added/cod.html

"...Collect on Delivery (C.O.D.)

Rely on UPS to collect payment for your shipment at the time of delivery
Description UPS will attempt to collect the amount shown on the C.O.D. tag or package label, and then send the payment to you. If UPS cannot collect the payment after three attempts, the package will be returned.

When shipping C.O.D., use Quantum View Notify® to have UPS proactively send an email to your customer providing the amount due and shipment status updates. Your customer is then prepared to accept delivery on the first attempt, and UPS can expedite your payment.

Common sense.??????????

Ask questions
Whats your ID in BF
Ask for references
Ask them to ship first
If they decline any of these they will not reply
I make everyone ship first to me..
I dont care who they are If they wont..
Keep stepping....

These errors keep happening and its Common Sense???

It's a bit convoluted, but I believe it's been suggested for each party to "Pay" for their knife thru paypal as a G&S transaction...ship the blades with Signature Confirmation <or similar>...in the final analysis, you've "Paid" for the knife you received and the one you shipped has been "Paid" for-- everyone's EvenSteven. PayPal gets ca. 3.5% from each party as a holding/exchange company as it were, kinda like what has been suggested already. If something goes south on one end or the other at least there's an official mediation process that can be initiated via PayPal.

And then maybe you get sent a box with a rock in it. I'm sorry that I feel the way I do, but I'll stick with reputable online knife stores, too many of these type things in the last year or so for my taste; especially when one of the most reputable (the kind of which seem to be going south at a regular rate lately) says "you ship first"-period. :(

I guess I've been lucky to have never been involved in these types of situations before but David Shore (dsho0505@yahoo.com) first contacted me 5/7/17 and commissioned a knife build.
On the "first" one, I completed the knife, sent finished pictures for him to approve and all I got was silence. I waited what I thought was a reasonable amount of time emailed him my intentions and then sold the knife. Then Dave contacted me and apologized for his delay stating he had lost his Father and had been tied up. (now I'm thinking he was probably jailed)
I felt bad for him and offered to rebuild his knife and even upgraded the blade steel. I sent him finished pictures one week ago. he responded saying he'd send payment as soon asap.................
needless to say, I'll be washing my hands of him. Thank you Bladeforums for helping my piece this together. (this is also posted in the other thread)

I think we should get a sticky thread going with some of these serial thieves. Be nice to have a central place to double check info.

Use "search" for the name to be checked. If anyone has been outed at BF, that will turn up the thread(s). Beats scrolling down a years-long thread of "bad deals."

I feel this way. I've been burned twice
That was enough. I set the ground rules and to
This day I've never had anyone worth their salt
In here decline to ship first...never..
Different strokes for different folks

Whatever one feels comfortable doing

When I do a transaction which involves a trade (especially with a newer member with little or no feedback), you can be certain of one thing: they'll be shipping their end of the deal first.

Other's here can question your M.O. all they want; there's an excellent reason why, we don't see you starring in these types of GBU thread's, Keith.

To the OP: Good luck!

I totally agree. Two members are trading -

One has 328 positive feedback 0 reds

Vs.

The new guy with 1/2 a positive feedback

Obviously the new guy should ship first.
