Ya know Kevin, with a dark background, some dark features of an object are lost in the background but with the light background, everything stands out as evidenced by the light bolsters of the knife against the light background.

Anyway, yes, it (scanning) is fun and definitely a viable form of showing off our knives. However, I'm going to stick to pictures.

Yeah, I agree Ed. I have more fun with a camera too.

If I get the chance I may take three scans at the same angle/same knife but just different backgrounds.

Jeez that things beautiful, not only is that swell functional, but it really brings out the character of the knife, giving it attitude if that makes sense. Great pictures guys

It still shows decent detail, but yeah with your camera skills I think you could do better

A question for the guys experienced with scanning. Look at this cropped in scan and notice the double etch on the blade. There is no double etch. Best I can figure its reflecting off the blade, onto the glass, back onto the blade?

Kevin, I also think it's a reflection. I don't remember how I tried to minimize it... or if it worked. Unfortunately I can't make any test scans since my old scanner was broken by a mischievous bloodhound and I haven't bought a new one. If I recall correctly, I often scanned at a 45 degree angle with the blades pointed downward to minimize rainbows on the blades.
