So I have 2 of the 3 "holy trinity" or "big 3". I have CRK and HINDERER, do I need the strider to fill out the collection? I know nothing except a bit about micks checkered past. I am curious if strider are worth the $600+ price tag? Thanx for any info on these knives...

I never knew about a Big Three. There are plenty of comparable and better offerings in mid tech and customs. Laconico and Shirogorov are two.

Strider ergonomics are excellent. Especially the CC versions. Criticism of the trademark finger choil shortening the cutting length are valid. I had a PT CC. Never should have sold it.

Since they went out of regular production, the prices have increased quite a bit. I really liked my SNG CC (in XHP); but wouldn't even look at them at today's asking prices.

It's not just a checkered past. The knives are built on the worst kind of scumbagery: stollen valor. Check out this thread put together by the owner of bladeforums: https://www.bladeforums.com/threads/mick-strider-has-some-explaining-to-do.453852/

Striders are in no way part of some sort of knife trinity. Plenty of examples of questionable build quality and issues. Way over priced. Ridiculous double choil. Then throw on the stollen valor? No thanks.

There is no way they are worth 600 and up ; there are so many other knives in that price range or less, that are better. I wish someone would give me one,it would be on ebay before the packing peanuts hit the floor.

Get one when they drop on the website, follow their IG page. I scored 3 the last couple drops and paid under $500 for them. Def need a strider w the crk and rhk

I like them a lot. One of my favorite designs. They hold their value incredibly well too. If you buy at table prices it instantly appreciates. Certainly preferable to Hinderer for me.

Take this advice. Read the thread by Spark.
Micky Burger is a lying, thieving, valor stealing POS and I wouldn't take a Strider if they came wrapped in 100 dollar bills.
Of course, that kind of thing may not matter to you. Some people are like that.
The knives suck too.--KV

DO NOT think that you have to buy a Strider to "complete" a collection. I've never heard of a "big three", nor having a Strider being an essential part of any collection (although, granted, I haven't logged into USN for many years). And then we get in to the whole stolen valor and shoddy craftsmanship quagmire.

They might have value as an investment, but as a knife, you can do so much better for a whole lot less.

Sheeyit, I would. I could use $100, plus I could sell the Strider to some jerkbag fanboy and buy something from people who haven't disgraced their country. Or donate it to Wounded Warriors or something.

(I know you're using hyperbole, but so I am...nobody's giving anybody Striders wrapped in cash)

If the knife appeals to you, then try it. At $600 they are a little stretched on price, but I don't fret over a couple dollars when it comes to something I want. As mentioned you can catch drops and there are also deals to be found on the exchanges with a bit of patience. That said you don't need to own any particular brand of knife. Buy what you like. I suggest you read the provided thread on Mick Strider and make your own decision as to buy or not from the company. It plays a big part in the decision for some and very little for others. IMO neither are wrong.
I like the SnG and feel it is a very nice design, but have come to realize I don't need an overbuilt knife for my uses. So at least for now Hinderer and Strider are out and only CRK remains

The only time I ever hear about this whole "big three trinity" idea is when someone is considering getting a strider. If the question of whether to get one of the big three comes up and it is always strider that is questioned, then strider is not one of the big three. The notion is silly.

Striders make great boat anchors!

Thats actually an insult to boat anchors and marine hardware in general.

A scrap piece of pig iron will serve as a boat anchor and not insult any marine life on the bottom of the ocean like the bacteria in whale excrement and bottom dwelling sea slugs. Both of which are life forms that I consider superior to Micky Ray Burger.

You can also get an SnG from Pro-Tech without all the burger baggage

The big 3 was a term used a decade or so ago when Strider, CRK and Hinderer were the market between production and custom, and all very popular and in demand . There were very few mid techs in that era. I no longer think it applies, if it ever did[

I remember the countless "Strider vs Sebenza" thread. Was Hinderer a part of this holy triumvirate or did it used to be someone else? Until the last number of years, Hinderer was more of a low-production semi-custom made knife available in limited numbers from very few sources rather than the "production" manufacturer with knives available from many dealers they are today. Or was it simply "Strider vs Sebenza vs custom"?

Burger/Strider is a stolen valor scumbag that could only be included some kind of unholy trinity.

If someone gave me one of his knives, I would happily accept it though. So I could throw it in the garbage and rid the world of at least one piece of the POS' offerings.

If you want a Strider, get a Strider. I’m not the kind of man that tells other men what to spend their money on. However, be aware of the holes in the story of Mick Berger’s checkered past. I won’t sit here and curse the man’s name up and down like many here, he was technically an Army Ranger (albeit not for very long at all before getting the boot), and word is he’s done a lot for veterans. I have a bigger issue with people that insult buyers of the brand by way of association with what Mick Berger has done... which does happen, and it’s pathetic.

Why not check out some of the offerings from Liong Mah by way of Reate? He is making moves, and the product is excellent.
