Schrade Cutlery Collectors Society

From the website: The goal of the SCCS is to promote "the history of Schrade Cutlery and it’s affiliated companies, which is the history of American cutlery and its evolution, from the Sheffield cutlers starting Ulster and New York Knife right up to the mourned closing of Schrade and Camillus and the continuing history of inheritors of that heritage. The SCCS has the aim of preserving and celebrating that heritage and history, of promoting and enhancing the collecting of Schrade knives and their affiliated companies. "

I've really got to learn to be more observant, thanks for pointing that out Bruce:thumbup:

Eric

thank you Bruce, the 'mission statement' is clear that the historical aspect of Schrade is a key function of the Society.

Is the SCCS active?

I can't seem to be able to dredge up any info about it, other than what gets posted in here!

I wouldn't mind joining, since I have accumulated a lot of Schrade U.S.A. knives and I am also very interested in the history.

Hell, I might even be able to add something worth while, thing is you can't get on the web unless you are a member. They should really think about allowing visitors to the site, without having to purchase a membership. I think this would draw alot more people to become members.

Membership fees don't scare me as long as I know or at least have a little insight into what I will receive for my membership dues. If the SCCS is in fact an active organization and someone was willing to give me a little more info........I'd join up as well!

My 2 cents worth

Tom

Russell,

Iv'e been that far! I guess what I'm saying is .........is it worth joining, is there intelligent exchange on the website, you can't visit and see what's going on....on the website without paying a membership fee.

Like on this site..........anyone can come on and view certain areas, however, you need to be a paying member for certain priviledges. You don't have that option with the SCCS website.

Are you a member? I post on another site and I'm going to see if any of those folks are members of the SCCS.

Thanks

Tom

Tom, I joined some while ago, although I have yet to view the forum, I didn't even think it was running, that's as much as I have done so far and as mentioned earlier only received a news letter this week, I'll have to do some more research regarding the forum. If you do find out more yourself please let us know! Thanks.

Russell

Tom, I've been contemplating joining for a while myself. I suppose if I ever have enough spare cash at hand that doesn't get funnelled in to one Schrade item or the other, I'll go ahead and join. With enough folks of your caliber joining, there's sure to be an accurate representation of the real Schrade history ;):D . In fact, with folks like Russell already in, and you considering it, I might as well go ahead and bite the bullet. I'll let you know what happens..

Eric

Eric/Russell,

I appreciate your comments here and I'll probably join at least initially to see what it's all about.

If you gentlemen know of an upcoming show in your area I would appreciate a heads up, I still have a lot of family in the Catskills and I'll be coming up this Spring for a visit. LT offered me a tour and I have a pushbutton that needs to reside with his vast collection. I'm also going to try and get a tour at Canal Street Cutlery (I have an Uncle that works there). In any event you guys have a great weekend.

I'll join the SCCS and give it a shot, I'll let you know what I find out!

Tom

Wow Tom!
It sounds like you will have a very Knife Spring!
I have wanted to tour LT's house (I have a standing invitation) for years.
A tour of both LT's & Canal Street is like Schrade Heaven!

Enjoy it!

Dale

Dale,

Like I say............That's the Plan, visit both! I am kind of hoping to get up there to a knife show and possibly meet up with some of the folks from that area like Russel, LT and Eric and anyone else in that neck of the woods. I travel alot for my job and the majority is in the Northeast, I could just about swing into that area almost any week.

Hadn't seen or heard anything out of LT in quite some time! :( Hope everythings alright with him:thumbup:

Gentlemen,

If you know of a show in your area that you might attend........please give me a heads up and I'll see if I can't come along as well!:D

Tom

I called the number the Schrade Collector's Society has on thier webpage so that I could join via credit card. This was on Saturday and I left my name, number and a message for them to call me back. I have yet to hear from them..............I'm not sure that the SCCS is active at all. That or they aren't looking for any more members:rolleyes:..............sure glad I didn't just print the form and mail my payment in

Such a shame:(

Tom

Already left a message for them to call me so that I could pay for my membership over the phone.............in which case they would get their money right away.........

I don't know what happened, other than it's been 6 days and still no call back..........obviously not important enough

I'll try something else!

Thanks everyone

This is a link to the original post announcing this Collectors Site. That was in February 2008. Based on how much has happened so far or has not happened, it doesn't appear to me the whole thing is much more than an idea. A good idea maybe. I have not seen very much published progress on the website yet. How much information have you who joined received?

A Newsletter is all I have seen so far, which came in just over a Month ago, There is also a knife which should be on it's way soon, hopefully. A non-automatic replica of a Schrade Hunters pride. The prototype was not up to scratch so a few design changes were needed.

Russell

It is active. Two newsletters have been published. Free admission was offered to SCCS members at the Knives Illustrated Spirit of Steel Show last year. (And would have been offered this year but the show has been postponed).

All memberships have been extended at no charge to ensure that everyone who joins gets their promised 4 issues of the Almanac.

Aggressive promotion has not been started pending the arrival of the club knife (which was due in November). Latest from Schrade is the knife will be delivered in June. Had hoped to begin delivery at the Blade Show--however it is a long shot but hope to begin handing out knives to SCCS members who are at the Parker Sevierville knife show.

The SCCS offices are open usually 10 a.m - 6 p.m. Monday - Friday unless there is a knife show.

Debra Voyles, the executive director of SCCS, has been out of the office quite a bit do to the pending arrival of her second grandchild (and first granddaughter). Frankly it has her a bit distracted, just as it does the child's grandfather.

There are several things in the works for SCCS that will be announced in the coming weeks.

If you want to wait to join until you see those things start, that's kool.

Incidentally, the price of all future club knife orders has been raised $5.00, and charter membership will end the day the club knives arrive.

I'm with you, however, I left a message on their answering machine to contact me about the purchase of a membership and here I am 2 weeks later and no response.

I want to join, if you are in fact active, please have someone contact me at my home phone (301) 746-7011 and I will gladly give my CC number for payment. If I do not hear from someone within the next two days I will assume you are not active and I will move on my merry way...........

Respectfully,

Tom Chase
