Schrade FAQ: Is the answer to your question here? Steel, dates, models.

Greatings from csmith9333

This is my seconfd time on the forum but wanted to ask a question that was sent to IRV by e-mail today. We heree a lot on the knives but what about the packaging (i.e. the boxes that they come in). the old ones were in a browm box with a top. The newere knives were in a tap closing bos of varing colors/ Is there a list that relatedss the boxes to the time of manufacturing or to a list as is on http://www.collectors-of-schrades-r.us/index.html. It would be good to relate the boxes as wellas the knives.

Welcome first timers to the FAQ thread! Look for your answer here concerning Schrade Steels, Model numbers, Datelines, History. Please, even if you find the information you are looking for in this thread, do make a post to say hi, and don't hesitate to ask for a clarification.

Hi guys,
I'm new and this is my first post. I am looking for info on a Schrade-Walden I bought when I was 14 (1962, I'm 58!). It is a bowie shaped blade, 5-1/8" blade length with a long, wide steel guard, leather stacked grip, steel pommel. I has red plastic at each end of the leather washers. Tang comes through pommel and shows as a rectangle in the end of the pommel. I would appreciate any info on the steel type, Rc #, etc. It is a "user grade" at best, but still very effective as a hunter/skinner. Thanks, Scattermanbf

Classic Car Series. Does anyone know anything about this Schrade series? I just came across a 56 tbird and a 53 vette

I have the old buzzsaw trapper 190T. Great knife. Even the new chinese
versions are pretty good.

new to this forum...hello to everyone...I have an IXL made for Orgill Brothers anniversary, i bought the knife in 1981 it has pearl handles with silver bolsters and engraving on the blades, in a wooden box...there was 100 made for their tradeshow, mine is numbered #91...does anyone have an idea of its value? Thanks

HI, I've never done this before, but I'm desperate to find out some information about a knife I have. It's a Schrade, cream with a rifle inlay, 3 blades with "The Kentucky Rifle" "America's Own" "1750-1880" engraved on the large blade, "Schrade" "N.Y. U.S.A" & "CM-1" printed at the base of the large blade and on the back of the large blade at the base is "00016" "Stainless". Can anyone tell me how old this knife is or the value, or any information at all? Thank You, Nancy

I just joined the Forum, so I may be doing this all wrong but this is my question:

Schrade Scrimshaw Series Barlows 1978-1986
I collect standard size 3 3/8 inch Barlow knives and have in the neighborhood of 450 different Barlow knives. I am writing today concerning the Schrade Scrimshaw Series from 1978 through 1986 [tang stamp Schrade, U.S.A. SC506]. I have the entire set but I am wondering how rare the FIRST year 1978really is. In all my limited travels (since 1990) to knife shows throughout the northeast as far south as Tennessee and my examination of ebay, I have only ever seen two Double Raccoons and I own both of them. Could anyone shed some light on how many of each year the Schrade Company produced. What do you feel the whole set is worth sold together?

1978 TWO RACCOONS
1979 ONE RACCOON
1980 DUCKS
1981 FOX
1982 SQUIRL
1983 OWL
1984 WILD BOAR
1985 PHESANT
1986 PUP AND DECOY

Thanks.

Hi All, I got my first Schrade recently. It's a small lock back with green
scales. The tang is stamped

SCHRADE+
U.S.A.50T

Looking at Orvet's excellent lists I find this entry:

Schrade 50T Bruin 3-3/4" drop point - lock back.

I'm confused because my knife has a cutting edge of 2 1/2", closed length
is just under 4" and length open is 6 1/2". The blade (inc' tang) is just under
3". My measurements don't match Mr O's list. What have I got?

Whatever the answer it is a really nice pocket knife. Thanks for reading.

Mick.

Checking the measurements of my 5OT:

Closed length: 3-3/4"
Full open length: 6-1/2"
Blade length from choil to tip: 2-1/2"

Seems like a match to me... Orvet's measurement is obviously the closed length, so it seems like everything jives.

By the way, if your knife has green handles, the actual Schrade product number is "5OTG" - they never put the "G" on the tang stamp. Same as the 5OT but with brass hardware and green handles. I've checked my 5OTG measurements and they're the same as above.

Best Wishes,
-Bob

I just measured again and, yes, closed is 3 3/4". I need new glasses.

Bob, thank you for helping me and for taking the trouble you did. Much appreciated, Sir. Best wishes to you too.

Mick. :)

Hello everyone. I am a first time user and I have a couple of questions I could use some help with. I am trying to find out some information about an Imperial knife that I got when my step father passed away. I believe it is old and seems to be in really good condition. The handle appears to be made up of leather rings with red plastic pieces at the top and bottom of the handle. It is a fixed blade, 9 5/8" overall with the blade measuring 5 1/8". I am looking for a link or a place where I can find out more about this, such as how old it is. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

A friend of mine and I purchased 1940T (that's what it looks like, anyway) back in 1976. We liked the knife because you could hold the knife in one hand, and catch the blade between your thumb and middle finger and EASILY flip the blade open. Well, after 30 years, i managed to lose my knife, and I'm trying to replace it. All the 1940T that I have purchased over Ebay lately have a lower blade. You can't get on the blade and flip it open. The blade design on my knife was like the design of the 120T....It was higher...

Is there any information on this? Is anyone aware of the blade design change? And where I might find the knife I'm looking for? my email is prconwell@tx.rr.com
Thanks, Plano Pete

Can anybody tell me any more about this one? (besides the busted sheepsfoot tip) I found the part# description in this thread, but I still don't know how old it is. I got it from my grandmother, along with an old Maher&Grosh trapper, so I know it's old.

I must be getting old. During the late 60's and through the 70's Uncle Henry's were my farvorite knife. I still have a few in my desk. They were a great value. Too bad Schrade didn't make the transition into the new economy.

Hello I am new to this forum but I am looking for information on a beautiful Schrade knife that I own, what I have is a Alberta Diamond Jubilee knife made for the 75th Anniversary 1905 - 1980. I am curious and trying to find out the value of this knife in mint condition and also would like to know if the scales are made of real animal horn or if they are made of an immatation stag. Thank You all in advance, Sincerely Doceanman1

I am seeking information on the value of this knife in mint condition and also am very interested in finding out if it has real animal horn scales or if they are made of something else. This knife is a real beauty and has the Serial # ADJ0601 and is in a beautiful IXL Sheath. I find it puzzleing that it has no tang inscription to say Uncle Henry or Schrade and also does not have a model number on the blade either but on one side of the blade it reads Alberta Diamond Jubilee 1905 - 1980 and on the other side of the blade it says Limited Edition Schrade I*XL Sheffield England and this writing is I assume silk screened on and definitely not etched into the blade. Any help will be appreciated as I am getting ready to send this as a gift to very close friend of many years and I would like to give him as much information on this beauty when I send it off to him. Thank You all in advance on this information request and I Sincerely will Appreciate any and all information that you may have.
Sincerely,
doceanman1
