I was using one of my SAKs today and it got me to think that maybe I might be interested in getting a scout pattern knife. Does anyone besides Case make this pattern... maybe in carbon steel?

Thanks
Paul

Just make sure exactly what you are getting. I just picked up a Scout Jr. If you think you are getting something the size of a CampKing Scout knife you may be disappointed. I'm not happy with the coloring on this particular specimen either so I may be sending it back.

Camillus made a great scout knife. They can still be found reasonably priced on the usual auction site.
I'm sure they are carbon steel. My son has a couple of them. Both of his have blue scales.

Are you looking for current production knives, or older models too ?
You owe it to yourself to search up Case scout knives on the auction site. There are usually a few dot era knives with very nice red bone, and even once in awhile pre-dot era scout knives can be found. These were usually very well made and nicely finished

I have seen quite a few Bulldog brand floating about local knife shops. Stag, ram horn, jigged bone, acrylic, etc. Nice looking knives. They appear to be Olbertz of Soligen built knives from the way they are put together and finished. I think, but might be mistaken, that there were also some Weidsmansheil brand too. If you look around, you can find a bunch of the older carbon steel scouts at flea markets, gun and knife shows, cutlery shops, etc.

Yes, Bulldog does a wide range of them and not too expensive either.

Even cheaper, but stainless, is the Rough Rider in Red or Amber Bone. Very fair knife, not to be sniffed at.

From left.....
Camillus GI issue
Rough Rider red bone
Case Brown bone, have another in the car just like it. It's CV
Case Yeller, SS
Case re-handle, CV

If you can find an A.G. Russell scout somewhere you'd be doing yourself a favor. My fave scout brand.

I was thinking of this pattern and went to the Case website. When you go to their CV knives page the Amber Bone example is a Scout. When you click on it there is no Scout in the list.
Do they make a CV Scout or not? If they do it will be my next.

You can't go wrong with Ulsters either if you want a solid user at a great price on the auction site.

For those who do own the Junior Scout, is it a good match for something like a Vic Cadet? Would the bottle opener end that fits a flat head work well as a phillips too or would it fold?

Even older Cases are on there.Tons of different scouts.Use utility knife in your search also if you go there.

I just remembered something. Imperial is now in production making new scout knives. You see them at the BSA stores. I think they are in carbon and they are inexpensive too.

AG Russel makes a good scout knife. The main blade is 154CM,while it's not carbon,it's an excellent stainless.

Thanks for all the advice. I'm not interested in buying a used knife on the web. I've really lost my trust on those sites.

If you'll look at my post #7 on this thread, the guy in the middle is a Case brown bone CV...the Case yellow is SS...and the re-handled one at the right side is CV.

Imperials are at the official boy scout site.

How is Imperial's quality? The only experience I have with them is a small fixed hunter I got from The Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation. It is a "nice" knife but nothing spectacular.

I've got this old Camillus Cub Scout knife. Some here may be able to tell when it was made, but if this is the one I had when I was a Cub Scout then Nixon was President and I'm dating myself, lol.

I haven't paid any attention to this knife in years. I looked for it after reading this tread and took some pictures today. Amazingly it has liner locks for the awl and bottle opener.
