Scout Pattern

IMG_0096.jpg

First knife i bought with my own money was a Camillus Boy Scout pattern knife ($5.99 in the late 50's IIRR). Really excellent tool -had it stolen about 10 years later -replaced it and kept replacing 'em ( really have a talent for loosing knives) -until I got my first Gerber LST.

That is a good lookin Kabar. The scales have a hint of Camillus. Were these made by Camillus ?

I honestly don't know if Camillus made these or not. Someone more knowledgeable may be along with the answer, 338375.

Camillus reproduced the old Remington scout models. Mine has kicked many tacticool folders out of my pocket, and my Vic farmer.

It's a nice pattern, a blade and a selection of useful tools and still not too massive.

I had a couple of older users, an Ulster and Kutmaster, that I cleaned up and gave to buddies who I don't think had any pocket knives. Nothing flashy but they seemed happy. :)

It was funny, on a lark I ordered one of the Camillus Classic Cartridge Scouts. I was not prepared for the size of one of these, compared to a "normal" Scout pattern. It is a big chunk of knife. And thick too.

1st - Camillus Classic Cartridge Scout
2nd - A.G. Russell Premium Scout Stag
3rd - Camillus Official Boy Scout "Scout"
4th - Craftsman Scout (made by Uster, I believe, since it is exactly the same as...)
5th - Ulster Scout
6th - Ulster Scout
7th - Schatt & Morgan Scout
8th - Weidmannsheil Damascus Scout, made by Parker

They show up on ebay pretty often. The last stag one went cheaply.

Two don't have bails (although the Weidmansheil has a corkscrew, slurp!) I always thought Scout knives HAD to have these?

Camillus made a great scout knife. They can still be found reasonably priced on the usual auction site.
I'm sure they are carbon steel. My son has a couple of them. Both of his have blue scales.

Are you looking for current production knives, or older models too ?
You owe it to yourself to search up Case scout knives on the auction site. There are usually a few dot era knives with very nice red bone, and even once in awhile pre-dot era scout knives can be found. These were usually very well made and nicely finished

Not so fast, bud. Camillus BSA knives went all-stainless in the early 90s- I have 2. Your son's knives are both Cub Scout knives with the Cubs badge- the BSA knives are either brown or black Delrin with the Tenderfoot shield.

Imperial is king of the ring if you look on the Bay. They're everywhere, and most of those are good thin carbon.

eswartz. Thank you for the tip about ebay. I would want a US scoutpattern as I like the looks of them better than SAKs but I dont have the real motivation to search auctions so this is probably going to stay as a project for the future.
