Scrapyard skeleton knife

That thing is sick, I am in line for a couple definitely maybe it'll replace my little Bravo Necker 2.

Ive never ordered from them. How does ordering a srapyard work. Is it a list you have to get on? Thanks

Mike

That looks pretty cool. I've been thinking about an Izula or a Bravo necker, but it seems this one's cheaper than either ($50) and looks pretty sweet... Is this true or am I way off?

Put me down for 3 or 4.... SR101 would be an ideal steel for a small outdoors knife-insane edge retention and good toughness. I sincerely hope the handle is large enough.

You can get an Izula for under $45 and it comes with a sheath.

The coated version will be under 50 bucks. Pricing isn't out for the Satin version yet.

I'd like to know the weight in grams. I weighed the Swamp Warden, Izula and Bravo necker and they came roughly 63g, 54g, 47g respectively if my memory is correct. I find the Swamp Warden totally acceptable but noticeable as a neck knife. The Izula and bravo necker just disappear weight wise.

Looks pretty cool - I like 52100 a lot, but it rusts like crazy, so I might be picking up a coated one. Will be a good replacement for the becker necker - I'm not crazy about the handle on that one.

This knife looks a lot like the Izula. The main differences I see are a slightly smaller blade/bigger handle, the lack of a ricasso if I have my terminology right, and the pry bar. I'm not sure what's to keep your hand from sliding into that thin edge, looks a tad uncomfortable when compared to the Izula.
I do like the pry bar idea and the overall dimensions though. Time will tell how it stands up against the other skeletonized knives.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but what attracts me to this over the Izula is its relative thinness.

The Izula is 3.5 mm thick while this at (~1/8th inch) 3 mm.

Looks like the next thing is coming up for scrapyard. I don't have a skeleton knife in my collection yet so this is really exciting for me. Love the price and the mini pry-bar on the back of it is a nice touch.

I have medium-sized hands. I've taken some measurements and I'm concerned that the mini pry-bar on the pommel of the Scrap Yard Scrapivore's 3-3/4" handle may create more of a hot spot than a nice touch. I'd also have to grip the Scrapivore by the blade in order to use its pommel as a pry-bar, and I wouldn't feel comfortable doing that. In addition, while the Scrapivore is not yet available for sale, Scrap Yard has not indicated that they will include or offer a sheath that might provide some measure of safety when the Scrapivore is used as a pry-bar. I may have to purchase that separately.

Just to be clear, I'm a fan of Scrap Yard Knives . . . especially the company's early offerings. But based on my observations and concerns, I'm afraid I'll have to pass on the Scrapivore.

I'm not quite sure what you mean by hot spot, but I have read several other posts by other members saying they broke their knife (izula usually comes up) by trying to pry something with it. Also, just because it has a feature doesn't mean you have to use it.

We will see how it turns out. I am also curious as to how it looks and feels in the hands.

A hot spot develops when some aspect of the knife handle irritates or puts undue pressure on the palm of the hand. To see what I'm talking about, grip a ruler lightly in a hammer grip and then measure from the blade end 3-3/4". Then grip the ruler tightly and notice where the back of the ruler encounters the palm of your hand. If your hand is approximately the same size as mine, the end of the ruler will rest inside the palm of your hand rather than extend all the way through it. If the back end of the knife (the pommel) is shaped like a pry-bar, imagine all of the various grip positions you're likely to place on the handle and then ask yourself whether the knife will be comfortable during extended use in all of those positions. FYI, when I do that, I'm left with far more questions than answers.

PS: Folks who broke their Izulas attempting to pry with them did so because they used the wrong tool to pry with. And just because you may not use the Scrapivore pry-bar feature doesn't mean no one will.

Once it's cord wrapped to my specs, a layer of friction tape then 550...I am sure it'll be fine. If not my Barkie Necker 2 is in no dire need of replacement.

Yep. But that still doesn't solve the issue of having to grip the blade when using the Scrapivore as a pry-bar . . . unless, of course, you're planning to cord wrap a portion of the blade! ;)

Just leave the sheath on when prying. That is if you have a good kydex sheath for it.
