Scrapyard skeleton knife

Just leave the sheath on when prying. That is if you have a good kydex sheath for it.

Too many if's for me. The Scrapivore should be safe and comfortable to use without having to modify it or rely on a third-party product. That's just my opinion, of course. YMMV.

They're not even available for sale yet, chogue1980. When they are, they'll show up here:

If Scrap Yard sticks with its business plan (which it hasn't done for a very long time), the Scrapivore should remain available for sale for 4-6 weeks and ship 4-6 weeks after that. But when it comes to Scrap Yard time estimates, I'd suggest you not make any assumptions at all. If you see it and you want it, buy it. Then wait. It will ship to you eventually.

Yep. Plus one on that and amen.

about what i figured, I loved my microtech then replaced it with an Izula, loved it then replaced it with a swamp warden, now...................

Here you go, boys and girls:

The pommel hits the palm of Josh's hand right about where I expected it to. It appears to be digging into his palm quite a bit, especially when he holds the knife in skinning position. But I'll have to wait for field reports to determine whether it creates hot spots. And watching Josh pry the paint can lid did allay my fears for the most part. Still, I don't think I'd want to pry anything with a Scrapivore that requires much more force than removing lids off of paint cans. That blade edge is mighty close for comfort. But the single most important piece of information that came out of this wasn't stated in the video. Scrap Yard is going to make a left-handed version of the knife by putting the wedge grind on the opposite side. That's the only way a lefty could safely use the pry-bar IMO.

bld522 ...... you definitely can't be called a fan boy!

As for me with some conscious use this will be an excellent knife.

Anything sharp can hurt and I definitely use lesser tools for prybars.

I'm patiently awaiting the release of this one!

You're right. I'm not a fan boy of Dan's recent offerings. But Lord knows I'm a fan boy of his initial releases. The Scrapper 6, SS4, Dog Father and SoD were classics the moment Scrap Yard released them. They're some of the finest blades to come out of Wauseon at any price. They truly epitomize the Scrap Yard Motto . . . "Superior Performance to Price Ratio". I keep hanging around Scrap Yard based on the knowledge that Dan has it in him to make more of those kinds of blades and the abiding hope that he'll do just that.

I finally got a Scrapper 6 but haven't put it through it's paces yet and when I can find the right Dog Father I'll jump on it. I'm really hoping that the Scrapivore will work out for me. Based on experiences with other neckers that I own it seems that it will be a good one. Time will tell. I do respect your reservations as far as safety is concerned. That should never be overlooked.

Thanks. :) The Scrapper 6 was Dan's first Scrap Yard knife and is arguably the best knife he ever made . . . perfectly balanced, full-flat ground and brutally strong. It's the knife I carry in my vehicle BOB, so that should give you some idea of how much confidence I have in it. You're a lucky man to possess one.

The 6 is a sterile first run blade so I've had trouble abusing it!:p

Wouldn't it be cool if the Scrapivore came with a sheath!

I like the steel choice and the fact that the handle puts the first finger up close to the cutting edge for fine work.

There should be plenty of recess on it to prevent slipping.

I'll admit that there is a possibility of the prybar poking the palm but I'd live with that ....... or round part of it over.

When I first held it I thought it would be the perfect BOB blade!:thumbup:

Thanks for the link!

It seems like it might also work well piggybacked or Ranger banded to the Scrapper 6.

Should make for a slim package.

You're right though ..... it needs a sheath.

A Rainwalker setup with the Scrapper and Scrapivore would be sweet!

I completely agree with bld522's concerns about the prybar. I've had knives that didn't have a prybar that I rounded off because it dug into the hand. And prying + sharp blade has always seemed like a bad idea to me; the reason why we want our edges so stupid sharp is because we don't have to use a lot of force which if it hits you, it's gonna do some damage. This would be the last thing I give to a friend to pry open a paint can or something. Prying in a sheath could be possible, although it'd likely cause accelerated wear and tear that could affect the fit.

Besides the prybar, the knife looks comically identical to the Izula. I think the only reason I'd consider this is to try SR-101(haven't had a swamp rat yet), but I think I may pass on a knife I'd have to modify brand new. Maybe if the handle was longer the prybar would be more appropriate.

I don't think I've ever had a perfect fixed blade ... especially one that is skeletonized without handle scales. The Izula now has a Micarta version ... not all will appeal to everyone. I always find something to change .... edge, profile, handle ... finish.

At 0.120" it's a SR101 mule team clone. It should be a collectable knife for the steelheads.

I'm trying to come to grips with the notion of using a naked knife blade as a handle for ANYTHING, let alone a pry-bar. But I'm having a lot of trouble getting there.
