Scrapyard skeleton knife

i think it was a bad call and im sure alot of others feel the same.

noone can call him out on it because he might ban us from the forum.
Personally i think its shitty business practice but i dont bother makign a big deal because although i think their logic is SEVRELY flawed i do enjoy talking ot the folks on that forum.

All of this recent shenanigans made me curious, so I looked over at the Scrap Yard forums - and what did I see? Someone posted a picture of a broken knife, and Dan immediately threatened to ban him. The dude actually apologized, which I think is just absurd - that a company should guilt trip a guy into apologizing for posting a simple picture of a broken knife is just ridiculous. And it looks like more phone tag with Jerry was involved too.

I actually really like the Busse knives I've kept, and my Scrap Yards too. There have been a handful of designs that I thought were just awful, but I don't judge a company on a few bad designs.

I do judge them on their actions, and I've started to see why there is a vocal group of "Busse haters" out there - some of the crap these guys pull, trying to protect their precious reputations, is just ridiculous.

There are so many awesome guys who are die-hard Busse fans, and so many great knives - I spent a lot of time caught up in that community, but the way the owners take everything so damn personally is just mind boggling.

I stand corrected. The Sus Scrofa springs to mind too :barf: :p

Hey now, I loved my SS. Of course I did remove the reverse curve from the blade.

Great for slicing, and a lot of edc chores.

Not so great for processing game.

If you like sharp edges, you need to grab one of the CABS. No choil, and a zero convex!!!!! Sharp!

I do think I want one of these. Nice thin slicer, and the high hardness for edge retention sounds right up my alley. I love the BAD.

Could use another slicer, that sits flat in the pocket.

As a general comment, I would not get my panties in a wad about the pry bar on the back. You don't have to use it to pry. It will make a great place to strike a ferro rod as well. I used the tail on my SS as a striker with great success (once I stripped the blade coating off). With the kydex sheath, you don't have any concern about cutting your self at all. I also successfully used it without the sheath without any problems.

There are actually quite a few designs out there with this "pry bar" end feature. Bottle openers, screw drivers and pry bars. One of my favorite custom makers has a variety of knives with a flat bladed screw driver on the end, for prying use.

i agree with you 100%

I agree. Perhaps that's why CRKT, for example, packages its SpareTool with a kydex sheath and an instruction sheet containing a warning to the user never to use the tool other than as a knife or a ruler without making certain that the blade is fully inserted into the sheath. (I should also mention that CRKT modified the original SpareTool design to incorporate a detent that locks it securely in the sheath when using tool functions other than the knife and the ruler.)

Good point. From what I gather, those who have piggyback rigs tend to use their small blades far more often than their big blades.

By the way, I can't think of a knife from any other knife manufacturer that required the user to utilize the blade as a handle in order to
access a feature of the knife (such as a pry-bar). Can you
? Can anyone?

PS: This is my final post on the Scrapivore. Dan Busse has requested that I leave Scrap Yard out of my future postings. Out of respect
for him, I will honor his request.

does the bow drill divot on my ESEE 5's handle scale count?

Yes, I suppose it does. I also suppose it would be a good idea to keep the blade in its sheath or stabilize it in a manner that doesn't create the potential for injury before using the ESEE 5's bow drill divot.

Call me silly, but I like to keep my body parts as far away from exposed blade edges as possible. ;)

Wow, I just checked the scrapyard forum, they locked the thread and deleted the broken knife pic,... And Dan made a threat to kick another person out! Wow Dan Busse, I have to say I am very glad I won't be purchasing anymore blades from you, did I like them--yes--- are they the best---no-- so no big loss, but your attitude is completely childish and rediculas to say the least.... You can post pics and videos of your clan abusing a knife, but if someone else does it, they are retarded and less of a person, if it breaks... And ya try to belittle them and make threats.. Well enough is enough... No wonder you guys all talk the talk but can't walk the walk,... Not a one of you..... Not a one
....

Gentlemen, gentlemen. I appeal to you ALL to keep the rhetoric down. If you don't like the way a knifemaker is behaving, please take it to the Whine & Cheese forum. Otherwise, bear in mind that this is the General KNIFE Discussion forum. Let's keep it about the knives here, OK? Thanks. :)

Point out your case in one simple post, and let it be done. No more dragging this out. Will a mod please close this thread if they keep up the flame wars?

P.S. - I already bought mine. Gonna buy 2 more of the other version. :)

I will probably skip the Scrapivore. I already have a couple of Swamp Wardens that fit the bill. On a another note, I am reminded why I spend more and more time over at the USN.

Just curious, what was the broken busse that got the thread locked?

I don't understand the overreacting at all.

I didn't see a picture of the knife that got broken. But I've seen this reaction before. Jerry and Dan offer what amounts to a cradle-to-grave warranty on their knives. As a result, they appear to feel that it's not only unnecessary to publish pictures of damage to Busse family knives, it actually hurts their their reputations when people do that. All the owner of a Busse family knife has to do is contact the shop and the knife is repaired/replaced or a shop credit for the original purchase price is provided. I've had to personally rely on the Busse family warranty in the past and I can tell you that it's pretty much iron-clad. So I understand their point of view.

Honestly, I've broken a Busse and posted the pic. There was no real negative reaction from Jerry, and I basically said "I'm an idiot, woops". I took the knife way beyond where any knife should have been. They replaced it FAST. Top knotch customer service.

Had I posted and gotten the same reaction that happened on the SY forum, I would never have purchased another Bussekin knife again. I see where they're coming from, but there's no need to talk down to a loyal customer like a child. I'll probably avoid this release because of that, no big loss, it looks like it'll be a big seller.

I'm happy to see more smaller knives coming out of Ohio. I don't have too much use for a 10 inch blade, but smaller fixed blades see a lot of work.

I'm going to pass on this offering, mainly because of how much I like my Izula, but think that it could be a nice knife to own.
