SDFK is Glorious

I think it will make a great camp knife that isn't too heavy to carry hiking, either. Splits wood and meat like butter equally. I also did a little limbing with it, three finger grip toward the arse end of the handle, snap cutting - worked very well in that application as well.

It makes beer taste better too, simply by putting it near the glass. ;)

I love the way it splits wood, not great in the kitchen but definitely usable if needed

It fits the role of an "outside" knife in my uses... splitting wood cutting vines and chopping smaller limbs !

Works great as my perfect truck knife too as I'm often clearing shooting lanes at my dad's house

Yeah, it's obviously not the best choice for finely chopping veggies, but it will cover the basics. Paired with my FK2, I think I'm fully covered.

...aside from the K20, of course...

If someone has real world experience with the sdfk and the hdfk, how would you compare the two?

This link below by an old friend abbydaddy abbydaddy is a great and comprehensive write up on the HDFK. Now I can go into a long and laborious detailed post about the HDFK vs the SDFK and the SDFK spin offs but I will spare myself from excessive bloviating. Succinctly put, the HDFK to this date, is the best all around CPK. I dare say, I may have just escalated their secondary prices but they are worth every penny and luckily for some of us, they were bargain giveaways back in 2017. I know this, because I gave away quite a few of them back in the day but quickly recouped when I had realized my own dumbassery!

I 'd be remiss if I didn't mention that with the fun daily banter notwithstanding, this sub contains a wealth of information from the past. Learn to use the search feature and hit up some of the older threads.

There are few knives I regret letting pass through my hands more than the HDFK. Such a nice knife. I really enjoyed putting it through its paces.

They can handle the same tasks. There is nothing I would do with one that the other couldn’t handle.
Considering the current after market pricing on the two, I’d definitely go for the SDFK and wait on the future run of HDFK’s.
They do feel and handle differently.

There are 3 knives, hdfk, the sdfk and the ss sdfk. They all three have basically the same handle, the two sdfk types have a slightly larger blade than the hdfk. The ss sdfk is similar weight compared to the hdfk, the basic sdfk is substantially heavier - which, in use, is probably the biggest difference across the three. The ss sdfk has a swedge, so it is harder to baton with.

The correct BF answer to which one to get is all three :)

The financially responsible answer is the captain’s above.

I only have the ssdfk, I need the basic, of which I will attempt to drill the handle out, and most likely fail, and then perhaps ruin the knife with the plasma cutter, but I want to try one that’s weighted like hammer, just to see. … maybe a water jet could cut through it?

fund someone who has and knows how to use a wire edm.

little modification plus secondary convex and boom! It’s my favorite!

Nice! I like modding my knives, makes them feel more personal. I think tomorrow I'm going to modify my light chopper handle to be more like the sdfk, in needs a pinch grip, and the rear nub that rubs your palm, will be ground off. ... If I don't make it too ugly I'll post the results.

I salute you sir.

post photos of the grisly scene no matter what.
