SEARS KNIFE WORLD

Very nice Duncan ! Those are both the same patterns as the Navy Utility, (minus the easy open and bail) and the US Army Air Corp Utility Camillus made for the war effort 👍

Thank you Steve matey, and there more than a few made 🤣, in saying that it’s not often you would pick up one of those War effort knives and they junked out and falling apart- still strong doing their job after countless uses.

Speaking of Steve ^ our friend above with that little Cute Doggo we always see, well Steve showed this Knife one day, I don't do this often- but I contacted him and asked him that if he was ever to sell the Knife- could he remember me as I would be keen, :) Steve did come back to me and say that he was going to sell it - so I was extremely grateful that he did and here we are....

Man I LOVE this Knife - hey a few Carbon spots - so what - this Knife is in gorgeous condition, built beautifully and has gorgeous Bone Handles, Camillus built for Sears that sports the Robeson Styled Punch.
This Sears number for this Knife posses a determination in search for me- the numbers on a couple of Knives I have with starting with 7's I haven't managed to find these exact knives - I have pattern wise but Sears re-used numbers at times- and I suspect that this Knife is in the mid to later 30's, it is definitely not 1940 - or so I have ever seen in any of the Catalog pages from that year- and the number just does not collate with that years use of numbers, or after the fact. I think it is definitely in that part of the 30's, I will find it one day pictured somewhere with this number 7642.
Attention to detail is what Camillus did with their STA-SHARP line - they were the best that Camillus were producing from that era, nice coined liners to boot.
Thank you again Steve Sir.

You're very welcome mate, I can't think of a better caretaker of this knife than you !

Steve, isn't that weird- you and I are on the same level here my friend- I looked at that Knife and thought- "Oh...did I post the wrong Knife"? so i was at this very moment going through my Photo's.

So help me out here Steve- now I think THIS Cattle Knife here and not the one in the previous post ( just above ) that I thanked you for selling me is the actual one I purchased from you my friend, so help me out here matey as both these knives Rock big time, but I am thinking that THIS one is the one you kindly passed onto me - what say you kind Sir?................................

This is a real Quality piece here, verey similar to the Cattle Knife in a couple posts previous - but note that one has the Robeson Styled Punch, and this one has the Spiral Punch

Stunning Bone with Camillus's gorgeous spiral Punch, meaty Spey Blade that I call the "Snub Nose Spey" I guess you can see why I do that, look at the detail of the Coined Liners- this Knife just rocks- so for a second time- and hopefully this time I am correct in thanking Steve for THIS Knife that he so kindly sold to me, I am extremely grateful Steve matey - Thank you once again for this.

Folks- Just look at the Quality of these Knives Camillus was producing for Sears at this time - simply top notch stuff here.

slice-and-dice, my friend I have that very knife in my car next to an older German Folder, mine though had the screwdriver end snapped off so I reshaped the Blade into a Clip styled Blade and sharpened it up = a most excellent Consul Knife!

Yes, this is the knife. I remember now that it had the spiral punch and some engraving on the shield.

Awesome! Thanks for clarifying that Steve :)

That's cool Jer - did you just find that out? Thanks for adding it into the Sears Thread matey!

Jer, I do exactly the same.

I go through different sections of my knives and it’s like I just got delivery of them as I forget having a certain name or Knife - it’s like a rediscovery trip again which is always exciting !

A while ago Cal displayed a gorgeous Craftsman Whittler, amongst so many other spectacular examples he has shared- thank you Cal for that, your collection must be amazing!

I not so long before Cal displayed that lovely Whittler, had received a box of Knives, in which I had a version of this very same knife- I was extremely pleased to come across this Knife and knew it was a nice one - and when it got to my house I was not disappointed in any way.

This Knife from what i can find first came out in the 1942 Winter Sears Catalog, 1942 was the big year of Change when the Craftsman Brand was now King and all Knives made by Ulster and Camillus were sub-branded under Craftsman - and 1942 was when you really see Ulster made knives taking over the Camillus Knives.
In one page of the 1942 Winter Catalog you see 8 Knives at the very top - and these are very nice knives - all bone stag 3, 4 and 5 Blades also with a Rosewood handled tl-29, these Knives were marketed " Your Choice - as low as $0.95 cents each.

The next line shows 4 Knives - 3 of these priced at $1.98 and one pearl Lobster Pattern for $1.79.

This Ulster Whittler 9473 was one of the three that you could buy for $1.98, Craftsman - the Head brand Etch, Chrome Vanadium as the sub brand, Chrome Vanadium was unique to Ulster Supplied Knives, Forged USA as the Tang Stamp, I think this Knife has beautiful "Bone Stag", and as Cal mention a nice Whittler.

Ulster must have taken up the slack as Camillus was too busy making knives for the war effort.

A nice Ulster and a nice Camillus, both of these Knives are built extremely well, how they crammed four Blades into that tight little space shows just how good these Cutlers were at their game.
Both examples of Bone on each of the Senator Patterned Knives are gorgeous, it's a real pleasure having these wee Knives in my lot of Sears..

I have more smaller Bone examples of the Sears range of quality Knives that they offered coming up in a wee while.

Gorgeous knives, Duncan! I have a Sta Sharp with nice caramel colored bone I need to post. This thread, and the article in Knife magazine, really opened my eyes to these old beauties.
