SEARS KNIFE WORLD

In previous post 108, I shared a photo of a very nice Three Bladed Stockman, Forged USA Tang Stamp - Ulster made, I want to share this again as I took some more detailed Photographs of this Knife and I also wanted to share a very nice Camillus Stockman, High Carbon Steel U.S.A Tang Stamp, wonderfully made I think both of these Knives are wonderfully made - two very nice Knives by these two opposing Companies battling it out for Sears contracts. The Camillus sports Highly Polished Steel Blades and is imo a real looker!

Both of these Stockman very nicely sized knives, the FORGED USA is exactly 4 inches closed, the HIGH CARBON STEEL USA is 3 & 7/8ths.

If you were to choose - which of these two appeal to you more?
That is a very tough choice, but if forced to choose I would also go with the second one. Both are lovely!

I appreciate your choices my friends!

Its neat to have feedback like that because often I wonder whether my preferences align with other Knife traditionalists.

So lets go one up on the Stockman, This is a 4 Bladed Camillus made Knife.
The Photo's simply do NOT do this knife justice, You will see small scratches in the high resolution takes of the Knife, but when you hold this in the hand- I guarantee you the Quality will astound you.

Nothing is left behind, High Polished Blades, Polished ( or cleaned may be the factory term? ) inside the Liners. Nickle Silver Bolsters and Liners as well as a coined Middle Liner.

The ever faintest Etch can be picked up CRAFTSMAN STA-SHARP. 9509.
I am very happy with this Knife- as per usual with Camillus STA-SHARP the Bone handles are gorgeous. Tang Stamp: HIGH CARBON STEEL USA.

Please forgive the remnants of Oil wiped away leaving streaks- to dull down the shine to Photograph the Blades I had to use a Light gray cardboard above for the Blades to reflect that- otherwise they were too "glary"

The color is so perfect on this.

Leaving the Composite World ( for a wee while at least), we have all shared some really nice Knives - I want to thank you all very much, and next time you are having a look through what to carry- check your Knives out- you may have a few Sears hiding away under a Brand name you didn't know was Sears

So here are a couple of Big Boys who have come out to play, hiding under a cloud of obscurity - many opinions differ as to who made these Knives, and Oh to have a Dollar every time Camillus is mentioned 💰

This is what started dragging me into a twisting winding, self doubting and .....well, at times it was darned plain out frustrating!

So I decided to start buying knives, just so I can compare Blade shapes to Manufactured Stamped Knives, the exercise was a long one and it took me Months.
Spey Blades were different, Sheepfoot Blades were different, Pen Blades on the same looking patterns with different etches looked different- slightly, nail nicks at time as well, but this too got hard as the frame got smaller- the same Blade shapes were bought down in widths and sizes etc to fit the frame- therefore at times really really making it hard.

Made in U.S.A .... " AHH people say - that's Camillus" and it is written in some books as this as well, but it isn't just Camillus that are under the Tang stamp, associated Etches could guide you to the maker who all had the Tang Stamp Made in USA.

These two Cattle Knives are in very nice condition, Lovey Rogers Bone, and all round nicely built Knives, here you go for a few shots of them.

I am trying to mix up the different Knives to create an invested interest into the Sears Knife World, all too often the though of "Junker" Knives come into one's mind when thinking of such a huge outlet like Sears- or Walmart etc, but hopefully with the posts so far we have all together put that one to rest and identified that there were some absolute outstanding knives available to the public, be it Bone Handle OR Composites, so I am going to continues the bigger Knives with Bone Handles in the next couple of posts.

Please feel free to chime in at any time :)

A real nice Knife, a Utility 4 "Bladed" Camp Knife made by Ulster, this one still carries the Manufacturers Stamping. This is just another wee head scratcher as to why Sears Marketing let a few Knives through with either Schrade, Ulster Camillus etc slip through the net, I don't think there is any documentation stating why- this may be such a small thing it may not matter - who knows, I always want the answers to these questions when they arise, I am hoping as I continue with this I find these answers.

The main Headliner is of course Craftsman, with the sub etch of Hammer Forged.
