Sebenza - I just couldn't do it...

I have plenty of $100 Spyderco's, and others $100 knives, and I can easily see and feel the difference myself.

Yeah Exactly, not too hard to notice IMO. :)

The difference between it and a cheap knife is noticeable. The difference between it and a $100 Spyderco, ZT, etc? Sorry, argue it all you want, I've seen and held both, the difference may as well not be there, cause there's sure as .... no noticeable difference. The difference is there I know, but it's sure as ...... not something I could see or feel.

People see what they want to see, or don't see what they really don't want to see or admit to themselves.

Holding a knife for 5 mins really isn't going to have much impact as they don't have a WOW factor so it takes more time and experience to really understand what those differences really are.

Just because you can't tell the difference doesn't mean that there aren't any.

A plain Sebenza is really plain and understated so for a lot of people who might see one they might think that there aren't any differences when they 1st see one.

So 1st impressions like yours aren't surprising and why I said it takes more time to understand.

Add in the $350 price tag on top of that and all that goes with it as in people's issues with price and it starts to make even more since why the differences aren't as noticeable to them.....

There's the problem just because you've held it and seen it don't qualify you to comment with any authority, have you used one for more than 10 minutes, a few days or even a week? I'd bet all the loyal fans here bad their opinions on more than a week's worth of use.

I've owned mine for a little over a month, I carry and use it every day, I've mentioned before that it took me twenty years before I peeled the trigger but I knew when I got it what I was gettin' into and based on that and the past months use, I doubt I'll be gettin' good of it anytime soon.

No disrespect intended but carry one for a month and if ya still don't it's worth it, I'll accept your opinion for what it's worth, just your opinion and your entitled to that but if your on a crusade against CRK knives and the purple who buy 'em I think your barkin' up the wrong tree and that's just my opinion.

I guess in the end it's a matter of whose opinion everyone values more.
Lots of fans/owners of Sebenzas have said this in the past, and those comments may be 100% correct... Maybe, had I carried one for a month, my mind would be totally changed. I admit, I have only used an Umnum many times, but I have not regularly carried any CRK. I cannot say that you or your point are incorrect; I haven't tested it :) I suspect you might be partially correct, but not entirely (just IMO).

For the price, even when it's a good price, I wasn't willing to lay out the cash to find out if I could be convinced by carrying the Sebenza. It's not entirely the price though. I admit, it is one of the "great knives" of our time! It just doesn't feel right to me. If I found the right deal, I would be eager to try out the Les George VECP. That seems to be more my style.

I do still like to hear everyones' points of view on the CRK offerings and why they are/n't the right thing for you.

I bought one had it a few months and resold it.

I prefer my grayman dua and Acies2.

Sebenza was nice.though.
I just didn't find it as sharp as I would like.
I even sent it to richardj for him to sharpen.

Guess you can't please everyone.

No you can't and that's what we all need to understand here. Some people like Budweiser and others like IPA, ain't no point in trying to convert either one but when they're close in price point and close in overall quality the battle lines are drawn and both sides try to convince the other that they're right while everyone else is wrong.

I'm not spending $400 to carry a knife for a month, when I already saw the differences between it and a good Spyderco/ZT/Benchmade/whatever are basically negligible in terms of actual use. Yes, they are there, I don't argue it. But they are so minute that if they weren't, it wouldn't make a bit of difference. Just from playing around with them, the Sebby didn't cut any better, didn't lock up any better, wasn't centered any better, didn't deploy any smoother or faster(okay, I confess, I do prefer thumbstuds to the Spydie hole as a matter of general opinion), no bladeplay in either, didn't wear any better in pocket...so yes, in basically everything I could easily check, they were evenly matched. The only difference I found(other than general appearance obviously) was that frankly, the Sebby didn't personally feel as nice in hand as various other blades.

No no no. If you care about your friends, you'll move them off Budweiser. It's not always possible (8+ years effort into my father-in-law, but I'm still trying), but we do what we can! ;)
