I'm not made of money either, I make about 40-50 grand a year depending on the amount of overtime I do at the production plant that I work at. That much money doesn't go too far in my neck of the woods. Every dollar is hard earned and I'm damn proud of that. I want a knife that can work as hard as I do and can handle cutting shrink wrap, shredding up to 30 large boxes (around 4 ft), and various kinds of strapping throughout the day aside from my main duties day in and day out all the while working like it's fresh out the box even years from now. The sebenza is a knife that'll do that. It'll show wear just like my body does, but I'm confident it'll still work like a champ. I fully intend to carry it on into my firefighting career as soon as I finish school and I know it'll be up to that. I'll be able to rely on my sebenza to do it's intended function without fail. That's a good feeling. Money comes hard, but a sebenza is money well spent. They're not for everyone and the fact that you can buy an excellent knife for under $100 dollars keeps most people away from them. I'm a fan of benchmades but the sebenza is in a different league of quality even though benchmades are up there with the finest of production knives. I understand that some may perceive sebenza owners as "sebenza snobs" and that honestly makes me chuckle. As a working man I can testify to the quality, workmanship, design, and finish of the sebenza as being up there with THE best money can buy. For those reasons, I shelled out the cash and carry it to work on a daily basis. It's a tool. I've heard all kinds of wild comparisons on these forums with people using cars among other mediums, but I feel the best comparison would be with other TOOLS. You'd buy a sebenza over other knives for the same reason a mechanic would buy snap-on and craftsman tools over some of the cheaper ones. The other tools get the job done, but they're not of the same quality and reliability with the same name (that was built on that quality) and aren't backed up with the same good faith when it comes to breakage and warranty issues. If you ever have any problems with those tools you know that you can switch them out without any trouble. The sebenza is backed in a similar way (with flaws in the knife, materials, or workmanship) and for wear issues they'll restore your knife for a nominal fee. I like that, that's why I've got one in my pocket right now. I don't live an extravagant life or do worldly things. I wouldn't even have time to between work, school, and other elements of my life. If there's one thing I've learned in my limited experience it's not to make assumptions about people I know nothing about.
BTW: I just came off a 12 hr shift so being tired as I am I probably had some type-o's. Please excuse those, but I don't care to find them. Time to SACK OUT. Gotta wake up in the morning to do it all over again! I hope everyone has HAPPY HOLLIDAYS!!!
