Sebenza or Griptilian thread I read????

I'm not made of money either, I make about 40-50 grand a year depending on the amount of overtime I do at the production plant that I work at. That much money doesn't go too far in my neck of the woods. Every dollar is hard earned and I'm damn proud of that. I want a knife that can work as hard as I do and can handle cutting shrink wrap, shredding up to 30 large boxes (around 4 ft), and various kinds of strapping throughout the day aside from my main duties day in and day out all the while working like it's fresh out the box even years from now. The sebenza is a knife that'll do that. It'll show wear just like my body does, but I'm confident it'll still work like a champ. I fully intend to carry it on into my firefighting career as soon as I finish school and I know it'll be up to that. I'll be able to rely on my sebenza to do it's intended function without fail. That's a good feeling. Money comes hard, but a sebenza is money well spent. They're not for everyone and the fact that you can buy an excellent knife for under $100 dollars keeps most people away from them. I'm a fan of benchmades but the sebenza is in a different league of quality even though benchmades are up there with the finest of production knives. I understand that some may perceive sebenza owners as "sebenza snobs" and that honestly makes me chuckle. As a working man I can testify to the quality, workmanship, design, and finish of the sebenza as being up there with THE best money can buy. For those reasons, I shelled out the cash and carry it to work on a daily basis. It's a tool. I've heard all kinds of wild comparisons on these forums with people using cars among other mediums, but I feel the best comparison would be with other TOOLS. You'd buy a sebenza over other knives for the same reason a mechanic would buy snap-on and craftsman tools over some of the cheaper ones. The other tools get the job done, but they're not of the same quality and reliability with the same name (that was built on that quality) and aren't backed up with the same good faith when it comes to breakage and warranty issues. If you ever have any problems with those tools you know that you can switch them out without any trouble. The sebenza is backed in a similar way (with flaws in the knife, materials, or workmanship) and for wear issues they'll restore your knife for a nominal fee. I like that, that's why I've got one in my pocket right now. I don't live an extravagant life or do worldly things. I wouldn't even have time to between work, school, and other elements of my life. If there's one thing I've learned in my limited experience it's not to make assumptions about people I know nothing about.

BTW: I just came off a 12 hr shift so being tired as I am I probably had some type-o's. Please excuse those, but I don't care to find them. Time to SACK OUT. Gotta wake up in the morning to do it all over again! I hope everyone has HAPPY HOLLIDAYS!!!

i think the fact that someone doesn't want to use their Sebenza because it's too expensive tells the story, that would certainly drop the value and make it not worth what you paid, IMO

i EDC'ed a Griptillian for a while, it's a nice knife, great lock, very comfortable, but it doesn't inspire the confidence that the Sebenza does with the light plastic handle. i feel like i'm going to break it if i used it very hard. i think there would be more of a case with the 710

except for like a week when i was traveling, i have carried my Sebenza every day, it's looking a little scuffed, but it has character

another thing about the Sebenza... can you imagine trying to take apart the Griptillian to clean it in the field?

This is a bit irrational...
Remember, that "light plastic handle" also has dual steel liners 3/4 down the handle.
I don't think a gorilla could break one!

Lets do a TEST! we'll give a gorilla a unsharpened sebbie and an unsharpened grip and the one that last wins. :D

However I have noticed snobbery from Sebenzas owners. It seems to me that Sebenzas attract "knife snobs" like Rolexs attract "watch snobs".

Maybe? Who knows... or rather who cares ;) BTW, Rolex is one of the best mechanical watches in fact, and one of the biggest innovator in watch industry. In fact that comparison (Sebenza & Rolex) is quite acurate. Think about Chris Reeve and his huge innovation... frame lock! And than think about Rolex and... screw-down crown. Now toughest folders use frame-locks and toughest tool-watches use screw-down crowns (regardless manufacturer). So it's not so bad comparison as you can see.

BTW, no, I don't wear Rolex.... :p

Ohhhhh.... love this thread... funny and quite pointless in fact

My watches go right in line with my Sebenzas.Simple hard use very high quality tools.
My waches are a TSAR and sterile traser titaium comander.

And my EDC combo for today.

Well I'd sure like to chime in here, but can't think of a thing real stunning to say, other than I've only owned a Sebbie for less than 24hrs. Haven't fondled it enough yet and have never owned a Griptilian.

I think this entire thread should be a lesson in cognitive semantics.

However as you know, usually these types of threads get posters dander up, when they shouldn't.

Cheers & Merry Christmas

LRJ35A is Right.....Merry Christmas to All and to a Sebbie NIGHT!

I disagree.

I think the Benchmade 520 Presidio is tougher than any frame-lock I've ever seen.
And I think that Spyderco's Compression-lock might be tougher than any frame-lock as well.

As for tough watches....
I pit this one against any Rolex:

Mechanical G-Shock?

And BTW, that is also great comparison to Griptilian. Grip is kind of "G-Shock of knives"... got one, but still consider it too plastic-ugly to use. LOL! ;)

Again... love this totally pointless thread :D

I'm not aware of any...and that's one of the reasons they're tough.
Overall, mechanicals are just not as tough as quartz.
I know, and that's why I said "Rolex is one of the best mechanical watches in fact".

aghhhh.... kooool discussion about God knows what. But I don;t care, let's keep it alive ;)

I love Sebenza knives and Rolex watches. Both are awesome in their own right. I love Porches and Hondas, also. But what I really love is reading about people's opinions about this and that and the other thing which brings me to the conclusion that it just don't matter what others think but what you carry in your pocket, wear on your wrist, and what you drive. And if you have a knife in your pocket, wear a watch, and have a car to drive, thank God (or Allah or Buddha) for all of that. If you don't believe in any of these entities, you'll just go to Hell:eek:.

I hope that my post didn't make sense so that I don't deviate from where this thread is going which is nowhere.:D.

BTW, none of the above should be taken seriously - or at least most of it.:jerkit:.

To me that is like saying my Dodge Neon is comparable to a Lexus. The griptillian is a good knife but can not and will never be in the league as a Sebenza although I do not own one.

:jerkit:

This thread is pretty worthless right now but I have to call you on this. How are you able to make a comment like this if you don't own one? Or maybe you have in the past and thats how you justify this statement?
