I am looking into purchasing a sebenza 21 from Chris reeves, I had two questions.

- Where should i purchase it? Should I purchase direct from Chris reeves or knife center if they have the basic model I want? Chris reeve direct I believe says it takes a few months? I just want to make sure it's authentic. Maybe the basic model wouldn't take them long to make direct? ( A large plain sebenza 21 drop point. )

- Number two upstate New York, would i have any problem carrying a sebenza? I'm in a fairly conservative area ( broome county ) and even have a hunters permit, but I wish to carry a sebenza for EDC and am worried some consider it a " gravity knife. "

It's funny I'm even concerned because I'm in the process of applying for a carry permit for a handgun, but New York laws are weird with knives.

This would be my first " premium " folder, so I don't want any trouble after dropping this much into a beautiful knife.

I carry my Sebenza on Long Island all the time. It's the :mad:ing City that has a problem.

Oh my god haha I wouldn't even carry a tac in NYC I grew up visiting there constantly and those police can be horrible.

I remember an NYPD officer pushing a kid to the ground twice just for trying to bypass the officer standing in the middle of the sidewalk ( in a non aggressive way ) I had my friend up from the US Virgin Islands and he was amazed people just allowed police to harass them like that.

Edit: Do you have any opinion on where to acquire the knife or if I'm missing anything by going with a simple plain sebenza?

You will not have a problem purchasing from any authorized dealer. For something basic I would go to the dealers. If you are looking for something customized go to CRK. You can always call them and see what the wait would be-they are very friendly and helpful.

Imho, you're not missing anything if you buy a plain Sebenza -- you buy them for the fit and finish, not the look. At least I did.

I bought mine from a dealer but I bought my Umnumzaan right here on the forum for a very nice discount from dealer price. That's what I would do unless you're in a rush.

If I find one I like from knifecenter would you say it's a safe bet? I see a lot from them in stock or obtainable.

I just don't understand why the blade looks so much more hollow grind in the picture.

What I want http://chrisreeve.com/phone/sebenza-21.html ( in drop point )

What I found https://www.knifecenter.com/item/CR...nife-s35vn-stonewashed-blade-titanium-handles

Forgive me if my question is silly or redundant but are these the same knives? The hollow grind just looks so much more pronounced in the knife center link. Maybe it's the lighting? They also have the tanto in stock right away, the one I linked says possibly 6-8 weeks.. decisions decisions.

I apologize peter I completely missed your post, is knifecenter considered an authorized dealer? The only familiar listed dealers on the Chris reeves site were bladeHQ and knifeworks, and both listed the knife I wanted out of stock.

Also would knifecenter charge me immediately or when the product ships? Thanks for your time.

Knifecenter is listed as an authorized dealer. I have never personally dealt with them.
I'll try to PM you with some other names, if I can figure out the new system-looks like you may not be able to get PM's

You shouldn't have any problems carrying said knife. I'm in Warren county and regularly carry multiple knives including a large fixed blade(Fallkniven volcano) on my hip. Enjoy your new knife when it arrives and use it. It's meant to be used.

KC is an authorized dealer. Buy with confidence.
If they have what you like in stock, pick that bad boy up!!
Pretty sure if the item you want is in stock, they charge your card right away. They ship very quickly.
I have ordered a knife in the morning and it shipped the same day.
Re carrying in NY, if you don't look like a gang member you won't get hassled.
Good luck!!
Joe

When snow conditions are good, Warren County is some of my favorite riding in the state.

Knifecenter is good, so is KnifeArt. The latter has a CF exclusive 21 as well as regular.

I hear you on knife laws. Illinois isn't too strict, other than no autos. The city of Chicago, on the other hand, is stupid. 2.5" blade length limit, but I can concealed carry a gun with a permit.

And a large percentage of stores have the no firearms sign on them, so it's almost pointless. People who live in the city are generally afraid of everything. Even a small SAK or slipjoint raises eyebrows in some areas. I avoid the city as much as possible.

Another upstater, saying you'll be fine carrying (as long as your actions don't give cause for otherwise). You'll, likewise be fine with Knife Center.
As far as the plain Sebenza (21), that's a matter of choice and preference. For me, it was not the right choice; and I ended up with a knife I wouldn't carry (until I bought a 21 micarta, and sold the plain). Some people love it, but I didn't like how it felt in hand. It wasn't uncomfortable, mind you, I just found it "uninspired" and "lifeless". To present the other side, I've seen people that like it describe it as "having a presence" and having "soul". Many say that it is it's simplicity that makes the handle great, because it can be held/used in any grip.

Another upstater here, you'll be fine carrying your Sebenza, the knife laws are so crazy and convoluted, that I highly doubt that the judges and DA's understand them. They vary county to county. The Knife Center is very good. Personally, I like the inlay Sebenzas myself, just personal preference.

Does anyone know what type of inlay is on this smaller sebenza? It's absolutely fantastic.

It was posted by a member called DRK in a different thread. I'm looking and think it's between the big oak wood inlay and the macassar ebony inlay ( im thinking it's the macassar but I'm no knife or wood expert over here. )

Then I'll flip a coin and check my bank account between that and the plain haha.
You guys have been a great deal of help and I thank you for your patience. This purchase is actually quite a big deal to me, I had to sell most of my knife collection ( a lot of spyderco and buck knives ) to cover costs and only have a buck vanguard and 110 to my name. I'll never sell a knife again.

The macassar is in stock now, the oak is up to 4 months wait :( so now I just have to justify if the inlay to me is worth the extra 100 dollars over the plain.
Just to put this into perspective the most expensive knife I ever owned was a paramilitary 2 green knifeworks exclusive and I had to sell it, so we are in territory never ventured before lol.

I really do enjoy a dark solid wood look, from what I can tell the oak does look like it has the veins running through it and I don't like that. I'll get my paycheck on the 16 - 18th so I have until then to decide. I have a feeling if I'm spending over 400 already, why not go get the inlay and make it perfect.

My problem is I'm not sure what wood is used in the smaller sebenza linked above. If you search ( sebenza macassar 21 ) in the knifecenter search engine you'll see the small and large version ( i want to buy a large sabenza regardless of inlay choice ) but the wood looks much lighter on the smaller one, makes me not sure what to expect on my larger purchase and they don't have a flip video for the large.

Don't be afraid to check other dealers - Blade HQ, Knives Ship Free, and DLT Trading typically have a good selection (there are other well known CRK dealers, but I know the above are acceptable to name here. In the case of wood inlays, I would shop from a dealer that provides pictures of the specific knife for sale.
