I was surprised and interested! I think no matter what you think of Andrew Demko's tests this result was interesting. obviously this is not a test of knife practicality and/or quality. Regardless I have always and probably will always prefer liner and frame locks above all others (liners above frames) despite not being as strong as some other locks. But I like my triad lock talwar too! It's clearly a strong, solid, and durable lock. Impressive design from Andrew.

That's crazy. If it entirely legit I'm surprised at the results... I've had a couple CRK's though come and go; nice knives and damn, that hurts to watch.

Demko's dialogue adds credibility versus the usual CS shtick; even if it is intentionally over the top...

Interesting. It would be nice if someone had the funds to repeat this test. Not saying CS has confirmation bias or has cheated somehow, but you never know now a days.

Here are my thoughts that I posted over in the CRK forum....

Not all that big of a deal really, I remember hearing that they didn't want to test a Sebenza......

However that did change due to their customer feedback.

Personally I don't believe that they really wanted to do it and was told personally that exactly.

The testing method is solid and repeatable however and that is their standard.

I know that Lynn and Andrew both have nothing but the highest respect for Chris Reeve and his products.

Funny these cheap knives maxed out at 380 in a weight hang. A cheap frame lock Kershaw held 380 and they're saying two Sebenza's won't hold what 50 ? I have a friend with a Chinese clone of a 25, that cost 60 bucks and you can't even make the lock fail spine wacking the crap out of it. Hard to believe.

Wouldn't it be funny if Chris Reeve responded with a fit and finish and cutting test?

Mall ninja merchandising is about all those Cold Steel lock strength tests amount to AFAIC. Those who are persuaded by them deserve to be. And where's the 4-Max vs Extrema Ratio RAO test I've been calling for, I'd like to know? Competition's too rough for Cold Steel to take that one on, or so it would seem.

They wouldn't have the win in the bag, so they won't do that. I mean, what sort of crow would they have to eat when they realized that a $12 Opinel can outslice their entire lineup?

And I say this as a fan of Cold Steel knives. I like the products, but man I can't stand the people running the show over there.

The marketing department for cold steel is pure genius.

Do you remember when you first got into knives?

What was the most important thing?

Is it unbreakable?

Now when the average knife Joe watch's a $450 knife not hold up to the same tests as cold steel $70

Instant holiday customers.

Even the backlash from fanboys keeps Cold Steel at the top of the conversation.

Im not against Cold Steel, they actualy make some sweet products, But there's so much more to knives then destruction test endurance.

But CS knives have good F&F and good cutting geo...

They do, they do. But I've had the opportunities to hold both in my hands and there was a difference. Whether that's worth the time to manufactur to that detail and the cost increase with it is everyone's personal opinion that the they decide with there wallet.

I don't own any CRK.

I don't know about you guys, but I always measure the inherent qualities of a knife by how much weight it can support. I'm always going rock climbing with my obese friends and forgetting all of the equipment!

Then, we need to set up camp and always forget to bring striking tools for the tent stakes! Guess we'll just have to spine-whack the knives onto the stake heads.

Feelings aside... I can tell you that from an engineering perspective, testing an item to failure, even if it is outside the normal envelope of usage, yields useful data that often leads to insights and improvements.

I actually do... 4" Talwar, two large Espadas, a Counter Point 1, a Pro Guard, and an Eland.
