Never held a sebie, but from handling hinderer's xm-18's, I can't see how the sebenza can be the same price as the xm-18. You get way more for your buck with the xm from the spanto blade grind which isn't quick and easy, a better all aroud frame lock, a g10 scale for grip, awsome ergonomics and cutouts on handle (a ton of machining time on this knife), and will take twice the abuse. Is the sebenzas price still how it is because its been around since the 80's and has had no competition. I think they have met their match with the hinderer which for retail i think is underpriced, you do not have to worry about this knife no matter what you do, rick recommends you to wail the fipper open and use this knife and he will back it up. All I hear when people defend the sebenza is its fit and finish and tight tolerances which the xm-18 has covered, and if you want a slicer rick has that covered to but with a more solid package. Will there be a price decrease in the sebenza or is it granfathered in. Chris reeve seems to be very defensive on a lot of matters also, but Rick doesn't need to be. Is it to the point where people feel like the sebenza is a great knife because of what they paid, so they pretty look for anything positive to make them feel good about their investment. I think rick supplying soldiers, emt's etc. first and foremost makes it for him not about the money also, this might also be a factor. I think some knife makers might just take advantage of their knives being available, Strider is also in this catagory in my opinion. This is just my opinion.

Sorry, you lost me on your comparison when you mention you have never held a sebenza.

I like Chris Reeves because I can find them decorative..that's just me.
Didn't Hinderer and Strider get the integral lock idea from the RIL...Reeve Integral lock?
Oh, and I'm a Reeve-fan-girl so I will defend the CRKs...that's kind of why I like to hang out on this forum.

Xm 18 cost quite a bit more than a sebenza, I think its also a matter of style. I feel more confident carrying a sebenza because of its simple not flashy design. Not saying fancy grinds, g10 and tactical looks dont have their place, but with the way i dress most of the time a sebenza just works better for me.

Um.... isn't the XM -18 like 500-600 depending on Generation?
You've never held a sebbie, how can you compare.

That's like saying I've never drove a pourche 911 but I can tell that it's overpriced cause I've drove a corvette from the same year O_O

No offense at all, just maybe use a sebenza then compare.

Also maybe Umnumzan vs Xm-18 would be a better comparison.

The seb is more of an EDC than tactical knife.

No they don't. On the secondary market, sometimes. But from Rick most of them are around 350.

I had a 3.5" XM18 that was a great knife. Detent was a little weak but the rest of the design was perfect. Very heavy duty EDC but was not a very good slicer. In the end I sold it at the going rate which was way more than a large Sebenza. Both are good knives so if you have the cash pop for the one that fits you best.

I have used and carried both for about a week. They are completely different animals. Both are worth what they charge for them, because that is what the market will support.

I would never feel under knifed with a CR folder. But there are times when I would feel "over knifed" with the Hinderer, especially from a slicing standpoint.

Now, if you can get one of the slicer profile hinderer (I believe this is what they are called), this might change my mind.

I am at a point in my life, when I have stared making a move from "tactical" to more traditional (think slicer slip joints), because they do what I want them to do better (ie slice).

Thanks for the replies. I really want a sebbie but just need to know I am paying for the product not the legend. The hinderer are the same price maybe a little cheeper, but the aftermaket bumps the price up double to triple his retail which Rick has no say in and gets non of that profit. For those who do not no Hinderer also makes a slicer grind not just a spanto grind for his xm-18's.

Nothing wrong with paying for the legend especially since you'll likely get 90+% back should you buy it and later on decide it's not for you.

Iv'e had 3 XM-18's both in 3" and 3,5". Awesome awesome knives. Definitely my next favorite knife after the Sebenza. They are WAAAAAAAAY more expensive than aSebenza. Yes, that is the secondary market price and Crimson shooter said they are $350 from Rick. Well, there is one problem Crimson. YOU CAN NOT EVER GET THEM FROM RICK!!!! I have been a fan and follower of his for about 4 years and I never have been able to get one from him.
The only negative I have to say about the XM is the detent is terrible. I have cut myself a few times reaching in my pocket only to find the blade opened or bust opened enough to cut/stab myself. That is why I do not own any more XM's but I find myself wanting one all of the time. Rick's a great guy and his work is exceptional.
Openening poster, I am glad you love your XM but your post is very idiotic. YOU'VE NEVER HELD A SEBENZA!!!

I am compaing the value of the product produced. What you get for what you pay. I feel there is lot more put into a hinderer product for the price point than the Sebenza. I think if they updated the sebenza overal rather than just blade steel their price point would make more sense (I know, why change a good thing). But maybe it is just that Rick sells his knives for to cheap, where it makes the sebenza not worth the value to me.

But you can not compare. That is the whole point. Again, I appreciate the love you have for the XM and rightfully so but come on dude. Really?
I have actually owned but products and gave my POV on the XM. That's real perspective.

What is this, kindergarten? Did someone pass you a note saying Sebbies are overpriced and now you believe it even though you have never even touched one? This is a funny thread, not enlightening in any way but very funny nonetheless.

I decided to go to Hinderers web site and went to his dealers. I could not find one XM cheaper nor even the same price as a Sebenza. I think the cheapest one I found was $575. Of course there are none available.
