Second knife as a loaner?

Who carries 2 knives incase someone asks to borrow one? A 2 min loan of a knife can quickly ruin ur edge if the person isn't an educated user. I've had to resharpen knives one to many times because of this. I'm contemplating putting my Rat 2 in my left pocket for this scenario.

What's ur experience, do u carry a spare because of this and what is ur spare?

I always carry several knives on me. Depending on the day, the setup varies. One thing that doesn't change though, is I do not loan out my knives. I cut stuff for people. Two reasons: One being I don't want my edge damaged or ruined; The other being I just like cuttin' stuff :D

I have an extra knife on my keychain but I don't loan that out. But usually when someone asks to borrow my knife it's to cut tape or open something nothing that is ruining the edge.

Trust me I like to cut stuff too. But some scenarios at work are not conducive to me doing the cutting. Prime example; I'm a railroad conductor and my brakeman was hanging an End Of Train device on our train. He needed a knife to cut a zip tie off the EOT's air hose so he could mount it. I'm on the headend getting our hazmat paperwork in order and getting track authority. And honestly I don't want to walk 1/4 mile to cut a zip tie and then a 1/4 mile back to the head end in 95 degree heat cuz a grown man that has a manual labor type job doesn't carry a knife. Call me lazy, call me cynical.... maybe a little of both..lol

A grown man without a knife in his pocket.. what has this world come to..:poop:

In that case I would probably lend him my Delica. Easy to get back scary sharp, and not too expensive for him to replace if he screws it up too bad

Nope, I'll ask for what. Then cut it myself; or if their request is utterly ridiculous then I might say no.

1. Not everyone knows how to use a sharp knife. Which sounds stupid, but too many people cut themselves using my knives. Because they're used to dull knives and used way too much force cutting towards themself.

2. No, my PM 2 isn't cutting through a cylinder block. No, you're not taking my knife to cut through metal.

3. Not to mention people trying to pry with it.

All of the above ^^^^^^

I often carry more than one blade on me but I don't like to loan them out, and I will cut stuff for people.
I have reluctantly handed my knife to my mom on Christmas to open her gifts with, but that's my mom and I can't really say no can I ?
I thought about it, but I'm not sure how well that would go over:D

"Dude, can I use your knife?"
"No..."

I frequently carry 2 or 3 knives, but I don't loan them out.

As Bill Shakespeare once said, "Neither a borrower nor a lender be." He was a pretty smart dude. :D

I ask whats being cut and if its still unclear what they're doing I ask for clarification. Sometimes, often actually, I say no. I get some looks but frankly I don't care because I am the one who worked to pay for it. Plus when I get the knife back with a fucked up edge the person who borrowed it wont even understand why I am angry let alone be able to repair the damage.

That's what the knife on my Leatherman is for (god knows I never use it ;) ).

The boys at work all have their own knives. When I find out one of my drinking buddies doesn't carry anything I show him a few fun tricks on my ever present ringlocker and tell him to keep it. That's one of the things I love about these inexpensive little bastards.

I will loan out my Case/Bose slipjoint to people I deem competent. It's a simple tool that almost everyone knows how to use.
