Second round of web specilas are up

a nice fixed blade with Stag, a couple of nice mini alpha's one with Burlwood handles another with Burl and Buffalo combo handles.
To be honest, I was a little dissapointed with the new items up for sale. I really liked a lot of the interesting folders that were on the last special. Now, I couldn't get to the internet till the end of the day, but I didn't see the mini alpha with buffalo and burl. I was hoping for that. The 270 Alpha Dorado was nice, but I already got that at the membership meeting. Also the buffalo Kalinga was at the same meeting.

I did like the 191 zipper with ATS-34 steel, but the rubberized handle makes it more of a worker, instead of a collector. Still I like the steel and I may get that and use it for hunting. Of course the fixed blade with stag & ATS-34 steel was nice, but I agree with Flatlander in that it is more like a steak knife. It is nice, but at $95 on sale and other items are about 2/3 off the price, it just doesn't seem like a $285 knife.

Yes, there are some nice items, I also liked the 196 mini Alpha Hunter and the 110 with a laser cut, it is just that nothing really blew me away like the last special.

"but I agree with Flatlander in that it is more like a steak knife."

Pete, that was someone else's take on the 405, not Flats. The comment was made sometime ago in another thread by someone else when Flatlander posted a picture of his. Flat's just kept it going.

Technically you are correct. He said someone thought it look like a steak knife. I just didn't want to make a moutian out of a mole hill and I simpifed it a bit. I guess I should of clarified it better.

It was good to see it next to a 105, I have a 105 and the 405 is smaller than the 105. I am glad he put the picture up.

ROTF&LMAO.
Trax that yahoo thing is funny. Dave are you going to stand for that.

Peter,

The OAL of the 405 is a little shorter but the blade is thicker than the 105 and the knife certainly has a sturdy big knife feel.

I'm real happy with it and actually would buy another but I've been such a pig with all the sales Buck has been having. I was also being tongue and check with repeating the "steak knife" bit. I don’t think that at all. Maybe it does look that way a little, but it also looks a like an Argentine Gaucho knife. In any case, I think it’s a fine knife and well worth the sale price. If you consider the cost of Sambar stag these days, the very fine leather sheath, the sturdy ATS-34 blade…you should like me find this knife to be one heck of a value.

Either you like the style of the knife or you don’t. I do.

I totally fell of the wagon last night and bought one of those 405 steak knives. AND THEN, I realized it is a DROP instead of a clip :D.

So since the wagon rolled out from under me and I was already on the floor, went ahead and got a couple of the 118 D2 clips.

Just messing with you dp guys. I think that makes me 4 Bucks for the year.

Now heading out to the garage to put outriggers and side rails on the wagon

Your doing better than me. Your going to like that steak knife PR I really think so.
I scored a 118 sheath from the 80/90s that has a bit of curve in it to accomidate the blade design. I'm just a happy camper with all that. Maybe I should try the 118 as a steak knife too. Mike Wallace almost convinced me that the 102 makes a world class steak knife. Actually, I do believe that. Anybody else like to use their bird and trout knife on steak??

OK Dave I was just picking around with you.:p But remind me to tell you a story about Trax and direct talk sometimes. Beating around the bush is not one Trax's problems I fear.:D

I know it's beating a dead horse, since no one at Buck cares...but until Buck gets rid of that crappy web site and gets something with a little speed loading, they'll lose $$$ from us little guys who are just sticking our $$$ in the bank instead of spending it...

...My $.02...(which is now about $4.40 on this subject)... ;)

(And DarrylS says "Ka-Ching"!!!) :D

...That makes about $150.40 total so far from everyone's .02 cents worth over the years...LMAO...Gotta pick up some 9mm for the CX4 Storm I'm workin' on...heh heh heh...

That reminds me...Our resident "Marine Medic" left before I could post a pic of me, back when I was a truck driver...Well, I got stuck driving the OOD around, too...

Guard duty sucked...I always got stuck as the Duty Driver... :grumpy:

Thanks for the info. I was thinking my 102 was my 105. When I got home, I pulled out both the 102 and the 105. The 105 is not a bad knife, much bigger than the 102. I also like your discribtion of the 405. I think it will be a nice little knife. I have a few Grohmann's that are small fix blades and I think they are super.

I am a little like you about being a pig with buying some Bucks lately, but after your discribtion I think it is a good value and will be a good addition to my collection, thanks.:)

Hi Gordon and All,

Sorry if a $100 dollar steak knife don't float my boat...LOL. I will say that just about any knife with a slab of sambar like those is worth an Benny. But, I don't need another hunting knife, due to the fact that I have more of hunting knives than I could use in my life time and the 405's style is not appealing to me for my collection. However, I do think that knife would be an awesome field knife for hunting.

Now so many of you bought one of those steak knives that I guess you can start a steak knife club...LOL. Ratty, Gordon, and PBD I'll send you an invite to come on over. I'll supply the Rib eye steaks you bring the 405's and beer;). ROFLMAO

For Rib eyes I'll bring a double handfull of 121's :D

I know it's a crap shoot, but that chunk o sambar might go up in value in a few years.

Did yall see on the Buck site that it is spelled SaNbar instead of SaMbar?? Typo or have I been spelling it wrong all this time?

I got this one more out of curiosity on the design versus ever planning on making a user out of it. Learned a few years ago that me and drop points do not get along well when working up a deer in the field. Was using an AG rubber Vanguard and it seemed like every time I got near the hide I was cutting a hole in it as I was skinning it.

Actually I can't wait for the D2 118 to get here. Just a shame they didn't do D2 on a 105 or a 121.

I will use one of the D2's this fall as a field knife. Looking forward to that.

Just messin with ya John...and that steak and Bear thing sounds like a wonderful plan.

PR, geez that would have been the best. A got to have 'huntsman set' To bad Buck didn't run the whole series in D2but if they'd let me pick three it'd be 103, 121, & 105.

I was actually hoping they had some of the 805SS S30V ones left for the web sale thing. Oh well.... I still haven't been able to bring myself to make a user out of mine.

This is what all ya'll brand new D2 118 owner that intend to actually put it in the field need to find for yourself. Your 118's tip is going to eventually work its way through that 105 sheath. I've seen it happen. I picked this up on fleabay for a smidge over $20. Funny when I think the knife bought from the list was just $25. I should have bought four.

Larry I'd be hard pressed to use that knife in the field too.
The guy (BCCI member) that sold me the 110/112 DP Stag S30V knives had that entire set and offer them to me at his cost or just below and I passed as I'd bought a whole lot of knives from him in a short stretch of time. I wish I had now but its water under the bridge.

Those would be real hot knives with some nice barky elk for handles.
One of these days someone will try a true auction on fleabay with them and maybe I see 'em and take a shot at them.

Hey Flat, I came across a 118 sheath as well to swap out that 105 sheath that came with my D2 as well. Looks the similar as yours with the button snap not the flap over.

Quick question, is it supposed to have that plastic liner in it as well like all my current production 120/119/105/103/102 sheaths have? Mine is just plain leather inside no insert and seems I read the inserts were only a recent deal. Am assuming a 118 sheath no liner is better then 105 w/liner still though!

Just don't wanna have it pop through this one after searching for it (after reading your suggestion concerning the 105 sheath that came with it). Thanks for the tip on that, hadn't a clue.

Wing,

I don't recall seeing a plastic liner in the 100 series leather sheaths before.
I think you'll be fine with that 118 sheath you found if its like mine above. g
