Civics lesson. Donations to a political candidate typically come in two forms. No strings attached financial support for a running candidate, such as party membership. And support of a candidate to the point that the candidate may be more willing to listen to the concerns of the donor.

A lot is being made of the fact that Benchmade has donated to people with "D" next to their name. But, let us not forget that they are operating in the greater Portland area -- a part of the country not known for being a GOP stronghold. If a person living in that area wanted to advance pro-2A legislation, trying to get a Republican elected could be throwing your money away. However, supporting the Dem who best matches your views may actually move the scales a bit.

Supporting a moderate Democrat in Oregon is much more conservative than supporting a moderate Republican in Wyoming. It is all about understanding the environment you are operating in.

I am guessing that those who are most outraged that BMK would ever support a Dem are all coming from places where Dems already have no chance winning an election. I could be wrong, but we forget the country isn't homogeneous.

Oregon City Police requested the use of specialty equipment within the Benchmade facility to follow these requirements.

Specialty equipment?
You mean Iike a $9 angle grinder from Harbor Freight?
That's a joke right?

Benchmade is a proud and unwavering supporter of both law enforcement and Second Amendment rights.

So now you gonna double down, eh?

Your political donations to gun grabbers says otherwise.

1. Your knives are overpriced.
2. Your QA reputation is spotty and often hotly debated.
3. I’m a registered BM owner and yet you shut me out of your in-house forum. You now require that I register to even be able to look at your forum, despite the fact that you already have all the info you need about me from when I registered as a BM owner. I don’t know who told you that I have any personal need to jump through the hoops that you’ve set up for me, but whoever told you that was very badly mistaken.
4. Now you’re destroying guns and desperately trying to excuse having done so as “supporting law enforcement”--as if nobody else in your entire region could have provided that service.

I can hardly wait to see what you’ll do next. Maybe start destroying PD-confiscated knives? Maybe campaigning for the national implementation of NY City-style knife regulation? Maybe suing Doug Ritter or Kniferights.org because they somehow displeased you? Maybe partner up with PETA in anti-hunting activism? The possibilities are endless.

Needless to say, I’ll never buy another BM product. You people at BM have a solid grasp on how to alienate and drive away customers.

This is from Wikipedia. Anyone want to lay odds on how long Oregon's "very relaxed laws towards knives in general" are going to last?

Location

In 1996, Benchmade moved to Oregon City. Apart from some Red Class products, which were produced in their "off shore facilities",[7] Benchmade has produced more than 90% of its knives in Oregon City, and has succeeded in bringing others back to home production.[8] Since 2010, all Red Class production knives have been discontinued, and as such, every Benchmade labeled knife is made in the United States.

One of the reasons Benchmade is located in Oregon, as are many other knife makers, is because Oregon has very relaxed laws toward knives in general and switchblades or butterfly knives in particular. There are no restrictions against selling a switchblade-style knife to an Oregon resident.[9]

My local PD has them melted down. I’m sure your local Department is very thankful you could get rid of these dirty Serial #s.

Don’t fret.

Facebook and Twitter are burning up the internet with questions and condemnations of Benchmade. What I am curious about is whether founder Les de Asis began these liberal progressive political donations or did his son Jon as the new CEO?

More like paying off the Dems might convince them to go harass other knife makers for a while.

That axis lock makes a knife almost as deadly as a nuclear bomb.

Usual political stuff. Pay us money and we’ll spare you for now type of thing meanwhile we’re going after your brother companies that couldn’t (or wouldn’t) pay.

Records show at least 9 years of donation exclusively to Democrats.

I can't like that but it's interesting to know. Someone else here called it a tithe. It's more akin to paying tribute but the idea was in the right spirit.

Lapedog Lapedog called it too.

If Benchmade is donating exclusively to Democrats, the only justifiable reason for that would be if all of their representative politicians are Democrats (... which in Portland is actually pretty likely). Businesses make donations all the time on the basis of their local politicians.

But what, exactly, did Benchmade get for this? Are Oregon Democrats supporting Knife Rights bills? Are they supporting pro-2A bills? Are they supporting law enforcement, the hunting and outdoor sports communities?

Second, is Benchmade making these donations, or is Les De Asis making these donations? Those are not the same thing. If Les is a Democrat and wants to fund Democrats, fine, whatever. If Benchmade is funding anti-gun, anti-knife politicians, Lucy's got some 'splaining to do.

Profits from their knife sales go towards paying that guys salary. If BM were smart they’d kick this guy to the curb and get someone who actually values freedom and rights.
